Job description

  • POSITION PURPOSE
    • Performs venipunctures, gives patients instructions to properly collect non-blood specimens and performs non-technical and clerical functions related to specimen collection. Performs point of care (POC) testing at the patient bedside.
  • MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED
    • High School or Equivalent (GED)

  • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED
    • Ability to read, write, hear, speak, and comprehend the English language.
  • PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES
    • Collection of blood specimens from various patient types using defined venipuncture and capillary puncture techniques. Status recording of the collection date and time in the Laboratory Information System.
    • Instruction of patients in the collection of non-blood specimens.
    • Performs point of care testing at the patient bedside.
    • Clear communication with patients, physicians and fellow employees.
    • Maintenance of the assigned work area, including disinfections and stocking supplies.
