About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Manager of Engineering to lead a multidisciplinary engineering team across two office locations-Orangeburg, SC and Moncks Corner, SC. This role requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and the ability to manage staff, projects, and client expectations in a fast-paced engineering environment.

Using the LMA framework-Lead, Manage, Accountability-the Manager of Engineering is responsible for developing personnel, overseeing project execution, ensuring profitability, and maintaining high levels of client satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

Lead

  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and coaching to staff (team size fewer than 20 employees) across two offices.
  • Foster a culture of teamwork, quality, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Maintain strong relationships with client engineering personnel and internal departments.
  • Assist with recruitment, interviewing, hiring, and onboarding of new team members.
  • Conduct annual performance evaluations and support employee training and development.

Manage

MultiOffice Staff Oversight

  • Manage daily operations, workload distribution, and performance of team members in Orangeburg, SC and Moncks Corner, SC.
  • Coordinate resources between offices to balance project demands and staffing efficiency.
  • Ensure consistent communication, expectations, and standards across both locations.

Proposal & Scope Management

  • Direct engineers in estimating project hours and expenses.
  • Finalize proposal pricing, technical scope details, and written content.
  • Review proposals with the Director of Operations before release.
  • Submit finalized proposals via Operations Support or directly to clients.

Project Execution & Oversight

  • Ensure quality control for all engineering deliverables.
  • Manage project and department budgets, expenses, and profit margins.
  • Review and approve weekly timebooks and project billing.
  • Monitor project schedules, team assignments, and weekly progress.
  • Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for consistent project execution.

Team Coordination

  • Maintain productivity goals and billable utilization requirements (minimum 95% for hourly staff).
  • Collaborate with other managers for cross-department project and personnel support.

Accountability

  • Deliver profitable, highquality projects on schedule and within scope.
  • Maintain full accountability for department-level profit & loss.
  • Provide weekly project and departmental updates to leadership.
  • Ensure clear communication with clients, team members, and upper management.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) in Engineering - required. Must be from an ABET-accredited engineering program
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license - South Carolina licensure required or ability to obtain within an agreed-upon timeframe
  • Eligibility to work in the US without sponsorship
  • Valid driver's license with clean driving record

Preferred Knowledge & Experience

Telecommunications

  • Telephone system design and implementation.
  • Fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) network design, routing, splicing, and system architecture.

Power Delivery Engineering

  • Transmission switchyard and substation design.
  • Transmission line engineering (routing, structures, conductor selection).
  • Distribution engineering for overhead and underground systems.
  • Substation equipment selection, layout, protection, and grounding.

Experience in either telecom or electric power delivery is highly valuable; experience in both sectors is strongly preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 7+ years of engineering experience with increasing responsibility.
  • Prior supervisory or management experience over engineering staff.
  • Strong understanding of engineering workflows, project economics, and resource planning.
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects across two office locations.
