Description
HOLT CAT is the largest Caterpillar dealership of heavy equipment in the United States. We have a full-time, Engine Technician—Shop position available at our Longview, Texas location. Must be able to Perform complex repairs correctly such as teardown, inspection, repairs, test running, in a shop environment.
Entry-level position – Generally has two or more years of experience and/or demonstrated job relevant knowledge/skills. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job; works under moderate supervision.
The incumbent in this position is expected to model the following practices on a daily basis: 1) Demonstrate alignment with the company's mission and core business values; 2) Collaborate with key internal/external resources; 3) Participate in ongoing self-development.

Essential Functions
  • ·         Models, promotes, reinforces, and rewards the consistent use of HOLT’s Values Based Leadership (VBL) tools, models, and processes to ensure alignment with our Vision, Values, and Mission
    ·         Troubleshoots and diagnoses equipment malfunctions and failures
    ·         Disassembles and assembles machine components to manufacturer’s specifications through the use of hand tools, pneumatic tools, and any specialized tooling
    ·         Rebuilds, repairs, reconditions, and maintains equipment and components
    ·         Demonstrates good customer relations and support; communicates customer needs to shop management
    ·         Plans and controls cost of repair jobs
    ·         Completes parts orders and identifies parts for return
    ·         Mentors and helps train other technicians
    ·         Maintains all equipment and work areas – keeps in good, clean, and orderly condition
    ·         Works safely at all times and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies, procedures, and standards
    ·         Works overtime as required by workload and customers’ needs
    ·         Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; e.g., ProTech Technician Training Paths
    ·         Requires regular and punctual employee attendance 
    ·         Performs other duties as assigned    

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
  • Must have a minimum of 2 years of diesel engine rebuilding experience
  • Demonstrates proficiency with current computer software, related hardware, and machine electronic systems
  • Quality control analysis skills - Conducting tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance and communicate findings
  • Must be able to read schematics and understand manufacture specifications. 
  • Must be computer literate in order to complete all duties.  Daily computer use is required
  • CAT ET and CAT SIS 2.0 experience is preferred or related diagnostic software
  • Must be able to write service reports in detail about work performed in order to report to customer all findings.  
  • Ability to be productive by working efficiently and effectively with a high energy level.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision and able to work in a team atmosphere.
  • Must have own tools to perform duties. 
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Diesel Technical schooling or Off-Highway Equipment schooling preferred. 
  • Must have steady employment history
  • Ability to frequently reach, bend, walk, etc.
  • Must be able to lift 60 lbs. approximately  15 times a day.
  • Able to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Excellent attention to detail and results-oriented.
  • Excellent work attendance is required.
  • Able to work overtime as needed to meet customer demand

Requirements
Education and Experience:
·         At least two years of industrial engine repair experience e.g. natural gas or diesel 
·         Ability and knowledge to read/use schematics and diagrams experience is preferred
·         High school diploma or equivalent preferred
·         Graduation from a diesel technology program preferred

  • No travel is expected for this position
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to move objects, and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue 
  • Frequently moves materials or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Constant movement and use of limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina
  • Ascends/descends with gradual or continuous progress by oneself, using both hands and feet and climbs up and down ladders and/or equipment 
  • Be able to maneuver safely and work underneath equipment
  • Routinely reacts to visual, auditory, and other signals, including alarms and instructions, and is required to visually inspect work
Work Environment
  • Regularly works indoors around moving mechanical parts
  • May be exposed to weather extremes when working outside in conditions that include inclement weather, heat, cold, and humidity 
  • Noise level may be loud at times
  • Exposure to small quantities of chemicals, dust, steam, high-pressure water, and high speed rotating equipment
  • Requires wearing common protective or safety equipment 
  • Required to perform work in cramped spaces and/or high places
