Job Summary
The HR Manager - Employee Relations provides expertise and guidance to help ensure a positive work environment, foster effective communication and address employee performance concerns.
Responsibilities
  • Provides advice and counsel to employees, managers, and supervisors regarding HR practices, policy, disciplinary actions, performance management and employment laws
  • Provide support and guidance to managers on all involuntary terminations, including risk assessment, process and/or practice recommendations, and participation in separation meetings
  • Facilitates communication between employees, supervisors, and department heads to settle work-related conflicts
  • Responds to employee relations issues such as employee complaints, and harassment allegations; conducts investigations of employment-related issues at the direction of senior leadership
  • Reviews involuntary terminations in accordance with policies to ensure consistency and lawful practices. Works with legal counsel to ensure actions align with policies and laws.
  • Tracks and trends HR metrics around turnover and makes recommendations on how to address the issues
  • Partners with Title IX Coordinator to investigate/assist with investigations as requested and coordinate appropriate hearings
  • Uses surveys, interviews, and other studies to conduct research regarding human resource policies, and other employment issues. After analyzing the information, makes recommendations on changes
  • Researches and explains laws and legal affairs concerning employment to managers, supervisors, and employees
  • Advises and trains managers and supervisors in best employee relations practices and strategies for managing supervisor and employee concerns, developing further training as needed

Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree OR Seven (7) or more years of related work experience with PHR or SHRM-CP Certification

Required Experience
  • Four (4) or more years of professional human resources experience, including two years in employee relations OR it's equivalent through training, education, and other experience

Preferred Qualifications
Additional Preferred Qualifications
  • PHR or SHRM-CP certification

Preferred Educational Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources or a related field

Preferred Experience
  • Progressive experience in Employee Relations
  • Experience in Higher Education
