Job description

Are you looking for a role that makes a difference in the lives of the University Community ? If so, we have a great opportunity for you in the Faculty Employee Assistance Program (FEAP . The FEAP provides high-quality, professional, and comprehensive employee assistance services tailored to individual and organizational needs.
The Employee Assistance Consultant I is an entry-level clinical position within the Faculty and Employee Assistance Program (FEAP). This role provides confidential, short-term counseling, consultation, and referral services to UVA faculty and staff, employees of community partners and their families. Under close supervision, the Employee Assistance Consultant supports individual well-being and organizational health through direct service delivery, outreach, and operational assistance .
This role is ideal for a recent graduate or early-career behavioral health professional looking to apply clinical skills in a workplace setting.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver intake, assessment, short-term counseling, and referral services under supervision.

  • Participate in case consultation and co mplete clinical documentation.

  • Assist with coverage of intake and scheduling processes as assigned .

  • Support FEAP education, outreach, and promotional events.

  • Participate in FEAP's after- hours on-call rotation following training.

  • Uphold professional, ethical, and organizational standards in all work.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in a Health, Human Services, Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or related field.

  • Experience conducting intake assessments, providing short-term counseling, care coordination, case management, or referral services in a behavioral health, healthcare, human services, or related setting.

  • Basic knowledge of clinical documentation standards and confidentiality requirements (e.g., HIPAA).

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to effectively engage and support diverse individuals and populations.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and maintain accurate documentation.

  • Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation after adequate training.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in an Employee Assistance Program (EAP), behavioral health, social work, care coordination, or workplace wellness setting.

  • Experience working with employees, patients, families, community partners, or other diverse populations.

  • Experience supporting Medicaid or other public assistance populations.

  • Experience conducting medication reconciliation or coordinating healthcare-related services.

  • Experience or interest in outreach, health promotion, workplace wellness initiatives, or critical incident response.

  • Training or familiarity with brief, solution-focused therapy models.

  • Proficiency with electronic health records and/or clinical documentation software.

  • Bilingual or multilingual communication skills .

Experience:
  • Two or more years of relevant professional experience in behavioral health, social work, counseling, care coordination, case management, healthcare, human services, or a related field preferred.

  • Experience providing assessment, referral, resource coordination, or supportive services preferred.

Licensure: None.
Skills and Abilities:
  • Foundational clinical and helping-profession skills with a desire to grow in the EAP field.

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills.

  • Ability to work effectively with diverse individuals, groups, and community partners.

  • Strong organization, time management, documentation, and follow-through skills.

  • Ability to work independently while collaborating within a multidisciplinary team.

  • Comfort balancing clinical and operational responsibilities in a dynamic environment.

  • Hybrid work arrangement available.

  • Travel to worksites within UVA and in the community may be required .

  • Participation in after-hours on-call rotation is required (with support during onboarding).

Anticipated Hiring range : $58, 0 00 - $65,000
