Job Title

Licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer (Wisconsin)

Job Summary

We are seeking a compassionate, professional, and detail-oriented Wisconsin Licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer to join our funeral service team. This individual will be responsible for coordinating and directing funeral services, embalming and preparation of the deceased, and providing exceptional care and guidance to families during their time of need. The ideal candidate demonstrates professionalism, empathy, strong communication skills, and a commitment to ethical funeral service practices.

Responsibilities

Funeral Directing Duties

  • Meet with families to make funeral and memorial service arrangements in a caring and professional manner
  • Explain service options, merchandise, and pricing in compliance with FTC Funeral Rule requirements
  • Coordinate visitations, funerals, memorial services, graveside services, and committals
  • Prepare and file death certificates, burial permits, and other required documentation
  • Coordinate with clergy, cemeteries, crematories, medical facilities, and other service providers
  • Oversee services to ensure dignity, accuracy, and attention to detail
  • Maintain compliance with Wisconsin laws and funeral home policies

Embalming and Preparation Duties

  • Perform embalming, restorative art, and cosmetic preparation according to professional standards
  • Ensure proper identification, care, and custody of the deceased at all times
  • Prepare remains for burial, cremation, or transport, including out-of-state shipping
  • Maintain embalming room cleanliness, sanitation, and OSHA compliance
  • Accurately complete embalming reports and preparation records

Additional Duties

  • Participate in on-call rotation, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Maintain funeral home facilities, vehicles, and equipment as needed
  • Assist with removals, transfers, and after-hours services
  • Uphold a professional appearance and demeanor at all times
  • Support colleagues and contribute to a respectful, team-oriented work environment

Qualifications

  • Current Wisconsin Funeral Director and Embalmer License in good standing
  • Graduation from an accredited mortuary science program
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work compassionately with grieving families
  • Knowledge of Wisconsin funeral service laws and regulations
  • Ability to lift and move deceased individuals with assistance
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in funeral directing and embalming
  • Experience with cremation services and arrangements
  • Familiarity with funeral management software
  • Bilingual abilities are a plus

Work Environment

  • Combination of office, preparation room, and service settings
  • Exposure to chemicals and physical demands associated with embalming
  • Flexible schedule required, including on-call responsibilities
