Job description

BASIC FUNCTIONS:
Under the direct supervision of the Deputy Secretary of Operations, the Operations Specialist I will take primary responsibility for supporting Senate Offices, which is reflective of a customer service mindset within Senate Operations. The Operations Specialist I will be assigned, and also be required to, assist with special projects.
DUTIES:
The Operations Specialist I will review and process Senate events as well as other requests from Senate offices. The candidate will be assigned requests that come through the Senate Mail Program. The Operations Specialist I will work with Member and committee staff, as well as various federal, state and local government agencies to develop Senate outreach materials related to legislation and government programs.
The candidate will be required to learn how to use various Senate computer programs to manage projects as well as the protocols and processes pertaining to mass mailing, Senate event requests, and various administrative functions.
Given the fast-paced work environment of the Legislature, the Operations Specialist I is expected to timely complete a variety of tasks as requested and prioritize accordingly.
DESIRABLE SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
Prioritize and balance time demands with multiple offices, multiple and competing deadlines, meet fast turnaround deadlines, and work extended hours when necessary; use Microsoft Excel, Word, the Senate request system and the Senate Mail Program database, and other computer programs relative to Senate Operations.
Applicants must be organized, detailed, and able to work well with others.
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma required.
A Bachelor's Degree is preferred. Please include verification of your degree with your completed application if applicable.
Candidates must possess the ability to maintain confidential information in a professional environment and be able to work well with others in a fast-paced environment.
LOCATION, SALARY AND FILING DATE :
This position is located in Sacramento, CA and requires in person attendance .
The Senate's core business hours are 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, and may require after hours, holiday, or weekend work
Final salary will be commensurate with experience and education. Seniority and significant experience are required to reach the higher end of the salary range.
