Job description

Are you looking to start a career in healthcare administration? We are seeking a detail-oriented Medical Record Technician to join our team in San Antonio. This is a part-time contract position perfect for someone looking to gain experience in a professional medical environment.

Job Overview

As a Medical Record Technician, you will be the backbone of our patient data management. You will ensure medical records are accurate, complete, and handled with the highest level of confidentiality. You will work within a military medical setting, following specific guidelines (HIPAA and AR 40-66) to manage patient information and support our clinical staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Record Management: File, pull, scan, and convert medical records to electronic media. Maintain the flow of reports between departments.
  • Compliance & Privacy: Review records for completeness and accuracy according to HIPAA and Joint Commission standards.
  • Information Requests: Process requests for medical information from patients, law firms, insurance companies, and government agencies (VA).
  • Legal Coordination: Handle subpoenas and official court summons by preparing certified copies of records in coordination with the Staff Judge Advocate.
  • Logistics: Coordinate the retrieval of records from civilian and military facilities. Drive a government vehicle to transport records between hospital activities.
  • Discharge Processing: Audit 100% of discharged patient records to ensure all provider signatures and reports are present.

    Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Communication: Strong ability to communicate professionally, both orally and in writing.
  • Technical: Comfortable using computers, printers, and basic office equipment (typewriters/scanners).
  • Reliability: Ability to perform highvolume, repetitive tasks with extreme attention to detail.
  • Driver’s License: Must have a valid driver's license to operate a government vehicle.
  • Location: Must be able to commute to or relocate to San Antonio, TX 78234 (BAMC area).
