The Opportunity

This opportunity with Black & Veatch offers the chance to collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams within the Distributed Infrastructure Market Sector, supporting Substation (Grid) projects and building critical infrastructure for today's and tomorrow's challenges. Electrical professionals contribute to power systems design by drafting deliverables such as one-line diagrams, AC/DC schematics, wiring diagrams, front panel layouts, general arrangements, elevations, conduit/grounding plans and other details for substation projects. 
The Virtual Design & Data Solutions (VDDS) Associate Electrical Engineering Technician plays a key role in supporting the development of high quality engineering 2D/3D deliverables for these complex infrastructure projects. Under general supervision, this position performs technical tasks requiring general knowledge of electrical engineering principles and practices, with a focus on creating and modifying electrical design drawings using advanced techniques in industry standard design tools, such as Autodesk Autocad, Bentley Microstation, and other CAD tools.

In this role you will have the opportunity to:

  • Supports engineering teams under general supervision  
  • Performs technical tasks requiring intermediate knowledge of engineering principles and practices  
  • Uses digital tools and design software (e.g., CAD, BIM, 3D modeling)  
  • Creates, updates, and maintains technical documentation, drawings, and project deliverables  
  • Begins providing technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineering technicians 
Key Responsibilities
  • Stay current on applicable standards, systems, document control practices, departmental guides, and BV policies and procedures  
  • Apply knowledge of the BV Quality Program to ensure accurate, compliant deliverables  
  • Demonstrate strong attention to detail while supporting continuous improvement and change management initiatives  
  • Use and expand applications and tools to evaluate and improve methods, processes, and procedures  
  • Create and develop project deliverables based on a variety of design inputs  
  • Perform basic computations, including material quantity estimates and dimensional checks  
  • Coordinate deliverables with other project groups to minimize errors and interferences  
  • Support internal client needs while developing an understanding of external client priorities and drivers  
  • Proactively seek out, share, and apply knowledge of new technologies and evolving processes 
Preferred Qualifications
Diploma or Certificate preferred. Associate Degree in Drafting or an Engineering Design Related Technology preferred.
Minimum Qualifications

Typically a minimum of 2 years related work experience. All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.

Work Environment/Physical Demands
