Expert Data Scientist - EHS

Company:

Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA)is looking for an Expert Data Scientistto join ourEnvironment, Health, and Safety (EHS)organization, with a focus on advancing EHS data analytics, high-risk prioritization metrics, and the development and implementation of an EHS Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) strategy in Renton, WA or Everett, WA on First Shift.

The role will partner closely with EHS leaders, Manufacturing and Safety Data Analytics, the Information Digital Technology & Security (IDT&S) organization, and other stakeholders to transform complex safety and environmental data into actionable insights that improve risk identification, enable proactive decision-making, and support engagement and efficiency across the enterprise. The successful candidate will help shape and execute a scalableEHS data strategy, develop advanced analytics solutions, and lead to the identification and deployment of AI-enabled use cases that strengthen risk management and safety and environmental excellence in both production and virtual environments.

Key Responsibilities:

EHS Data Analytics and Insights

  • Partner with the BCA Manufacturing and Safety team to develop and maintain advanced analytics models and dashboards to support EHS performance monitoring, trend analysis, and predictive insights.

  • Analyze incident, audit, inspection, training, exposure, and other EHS-related datasets to identify patterns, leading indicators, and risk drivers.

  • Translate complex data into clear, actionable, proactive recommendations for business and EHS leaders.

  • Lead the sustainment and creation of standardized EHS metrics, data definitions, and reporting frameworks across business units and functions, including high-risk prioritization metrics.

EHS Data Strategy

  • Contribute to the development and execution of the enterpriseEHS data strategy, including governance, data quality, taxonomy, integration, and accessibility.

  • Partner with the EHS Systems team to align critical data sources and opportunities to improve data completeness, accuracy, consistency, and usability.

  • Collaborate with ITD&S team to establish reliable pipelines, scalable architecture, and sustainable analytics solutions.

  • Help define data standards and business rules that enable harmonized EHS reporting and analysis.

EHS AI Strategy Development and Implementation

  • Support the development of anEHS AI strategyaligned to business priorities, risk management needs, digital transformation objectives, available resourcing, and information security requirements.

  • Identify, evaluate, and prioritize AI/ML use cases such as predictive risk detection, anomaly detection, natural language processing of incident narratives, inspection intelligence, and recommendation engines.

  • Lead or guide pilot development, proof-of-concepts, model validation, and implementation planning for AI-enabled EHS solutions.

  • Lead a team of EHS and other business stakeholders passionate about AI and with IDT&S to move AI concepts from exploration to deployment and adoption.

  • Ensure responsible, ethical, and explainable use of AI in alignment with governance, and compliance requirements and, and an EHS/Sustainability perspective.

Stakeholder Engagement and Change Support

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to EHS and business leaders on analytics, data-driven risk management, and AI opportunities.

  • Present findings and recommendations to technical and non-technical audiences with clarity and influence.

  • Support change management, user adoption, and training efforts for new analytics tools, metrics, and AI-enabled capabilities.

  • Build strong cross-functional relationships to ensure analytics outputs are embedded into operational processes and decision-making.

Required Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in data science, analytics, or applied data solutions; experience in EHS, safety, environmental compliance, risk management, operations, or a regulated industry strongly preferred

  • 10+ years of proficiency in Python, R, SQL, or equivalent analytics tools

  • Experience with data visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms

  • Experience working with large, complex, and potentially disparate datasets

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience developing or implementing AI/ML solutions in an enterprise environment

  • Familiarity with EHS data domains such as incidents, hazards, corrective actions, audits, exposure monitoring, training, inspections, and regulatory compliance

  • Experience with natural language processing, anomaly detection, classification, clustering, or time-series forecasting

  • Knowledge of responsible AI principles, model interpretability, and governance frameworks.

  • Strong understanding of data strategy concepts, including governance, quality, lineage, and integration

  • Ability to communicate technical findings to business stakeholders and influence decision-making

  • Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple workstreams

  • Demonstrated ability to develop predictive models, scoring methodologies, and actionable dashboards

  • Bachelor's degree in data science, Statistics, Computer Science, Industrial Engineering, Mathematics, Environmental Science, or a related field
