Job description

Birmingham Public Schools is seeking a Community Education Supervisor.
This is a 12-month, full-time position.
 

This role supervises several educational and community opportunities that Birmingham Public Schools offers beyond the traditional school day. The Community Education Office manages thriving programs, lasting partnerships, and meaningful revenue that support the district's overall operations. Reporting to the Chief Financial & Operations Officer, this is a high-visibility role for someone who thinks innovatively, can work collaboratively with a range of customers and vendors, and has managed teams in fast-paced environments.

Programming. Lead the design, launch, and day-to-day operation of enrichment, recreation, and academic programs - including before- and after-school programs, Kids Club, recess and summer camps, and elementary academic summer school. Serve as Summer Camp Administrator.
Staffing. Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate program staff (instructors, paraprofessionals, lifeguards, summer school instructors). Coordinate accommodations for students with special needs and run the Teen Volunteer (Counselor in Training) Program.
Facility partnerships and revenue. Serve as the district's primary liaison for long-term facility lease agreements, including the cultural schools; generate revenue through facility rentals, advertising, and program partnerships; coordinate building use with Facilities and Maintenance; oversee and train users on the facility reservation system and the Community Education registration site.
Budget and financial accountability. Develop and monitor Community Education budgets and revenue streams; oversee fiscal processes and contractor documentation, including liability insurance; ensure payroll and pupil accounting compliance.
Marketing and community presence. Lead the marketing strategy, provide the vision for print and online publications, and assist with an improved website and social media presence for Community Education programs; review and approve promotional materials for district distribution.
Partner and grant programs. Manage financial assistance partnerships with Orchard Children's Services and Birmingham Youth Assistance; support administration of the Adult English as a Second Language (ESL) program, including grant writing and state and federal compliance.
Leadership and representation. Supervise staff and conduct support personnel evaluations; attend regular meetings with school principals and district administrators; bring an innovation mindset to operational and programmatic challenges; perform other related duties as assigned by the Chief Financial & Operations Officer.
