Job description

Leland's mission is to unlock human potential by making the world's expertise more accessible. Our platform connects ambitious people with coaching, content, and courses that can can help them achieve their career and educational goals. Since our founding in 2021, we've helped tens of thousands of people reach their most ambitious goals, raised $19M from world-class investors, and built the industry leader in educational, career, and AI coaching.
We're looking for a high-agency operator to own a large, two-sided marketplace at the intersection of education, career development, and expert knowledge. You'll run the supply and demand engine across one of the broadest category footprints in the space, and increasingly with both human and AI experts serving customers.
The Opportunity
Leland is a marketplace where ambitious people find the experts and services they need to reach goals that actually matter. Getting into Harvard Business School. Landing a McKinsey offer. Passing the LSAT. Breaking into investment banking. Acing the MCAT. Pivoting into product management. Upskilling in AI to stay ahead in a fast-moving market.
The category footprint is wide: MBA admissions, management consulting, private equity, investment banking, product management, law school, medical school, dental school, college admissions, master's programs, PhD programs, executive coaching, leadership development, career coaching, AI strategy, GMAT, GRE, LSAT, SAT, MCAT, USMLE, and dozens more, with thousands of customers working with Leland experts every month across all of them.
The Marketplace GM owns the full business. That means owning supply (the quality, quantity, and activation of the expert network) and demand (the customers who come to Leland to find them). It also means expanding into new categories, developing enterprise partnerships (including early deals deploying AI experts for large-scale workforce upskilling), and finding the growth vectors that compound the platform over time.
This is already an eight-figure business. The next GM takes it further.
High ownership. Real P&L. Reporting to our Head of GMs.
What You'll Own
Expert Supply. The marketplace is only as good as the experts on it. You'll own the strategy for recruiting, vetting, activating, and retaining a high-quality bench of experts across every category, human and AI alike, because more great experts in more categories means more reasons for customers to come, stay, and refer.
Customer Demand. You'll own how customers find Leland, why they convert, and how well they're served - understanding the acquisition funnel, optimizing conversion across categories, and ensuring the customer experience drives retention and word of mouth.
Category Expansion. Leland currently serves 50+ categories spanning career development, school admissions, and test prep. There are more to open, and you'll identify where the demand exists, recruit the supply to serve it, and launch new categories with urgency.
Enterprise. An early-stage but high-potential channel. Companies are coming to Leland to deploy AI-delivered services for workforce upskilling and outplacement at scale. You'll develop and grow this motion alongside the core marketplace.
What We're Looking For
Marketplace Operator
You understand how two-sided markets work. You know that supply and demand both need dedicated attention, that the unit economics matter, and that growth comes from finding the right lever and pressing hard. You've done this before: at a startup, a marketplace company, or somewhere you had to figure it out yourself.
Ideal backgrounds include:
  • GM, operator, or founder at a marketplace or platform business
  • Revenue or growth leader at an edtech, coaching, or content company
  • Early operator at a high-growth startup who owned a P&L or a major business line
Commercially Sharp
You've owned a number and moved it - carrying a quota, leading a sales or growth team, or running a business where you were responsible for the top line. The pattern we're looking for: you identified an opportunity, built a motion, and executed it. Not delegated. Did it. You're comfortable with data and know what metrics matter for a marketplace (GMV, take rate, conversion, LTV, CAC, NPS) and how to find the insight that changes what you do next.
Category Instinct
You don't need to be an MBA admissions expert or a consulting recruiting guru, but you need genuine respect for the goals our clients are chasing. They're high-stakes, personal, and outcomes-driven. The best people in this role care about getting clients where they're trying to go, not just hitting a booking number.
AI-Native
You build with AI in your own work. You're not learning about it from the outside; it's already part of how you operate. That's table stakes here.
Your Identity
  • You find the pull. You're not waiting to be told which lever matters; you're testing, reading the data, and doubling down on what's working.
  • You're a builder. You don't just manage what exists. You create new programs, new supply pipelines, new ways to activate experts and convert customers.
  • You build with AI. It's how you work, how you think through problems, and how you move faster than people who don't.
  • You treat the business like it's yours. You know the numbers. You make decisions like they cost real money.
  • You're high-agency. When something's broken, you fix it. When there's an opportunity, you move on it.
  • You move fast. Leland is not a slow-moving organization. The people who thrive here ship things and learn from them.
  • You care about the mission. We're helping people reach ambitious goals. That matters, and the best people here feel it.
What It's Like to Work Here
GMs at Leland operate like founders with a platform behind them. You own the roadmap for your business, earn resources as you demonstrate traction, and see your compensation and equity grow as the business does. You start with the full Leland platform as your unfair advantage - the brand, the audience, the distribution, the payment rails - and you build from there. You'll work directly with Head of GMs Nick Van Slooten and work closely with our CEO, John Koelliker. Leland is based in Lehi, Utah and we work in person every day. The team is small, the pace is fast, and the work is real.
Why Leland?
  • The chance to join a world-class team helping people achieve their career and educational dreams
  • Work in a collaborative, high-energy environment where your contributions have a direct impact
  • Operate in a fast-paced, AI-native environment
  • We don't hire people who merely want to work for a great company; we hire people who want to make a great company

Leland is an equal opportunity employer. We encourage candidates of all backgrounds and demographics to apply.
