Job description

Summary:
Proximity Learning provides free after-school programming to at-risk students from our Chicago Area Schools in a therapeutic youth home setting. We are seeking a candidate who is passionate about children, enthusiastic, reliable, respectful, and patient while working and tutoring our children. This role will work with middle school (grades 3-8) or high school (grades 9-12) students to build their knowledge, basic skills, and good study habits to improve and succeed in their academics. Candidates must be able to multitask and show initiative. Effective written and oral communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to deal with all levels of personnel and the public professionally, are required.
What You Will Be Doing:
  • Provide students with homework help, check work, subject tutoring, and assist with test preparation
  • Teaching math, grammar, and reading using LinkIt, Moby Max, and Edmentum Apex Learning. Training is available
  • Provide enrichment activities that improve students' knowledge and academic skills
  • Supervising students as an authority figure or "managing" student groups

Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $30/hr.
Schedule: After-school 4-hour shift, Monday to Thursday

Basic requirements:
COVID-19 vaccination
  • Chicago, IL 60624: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)
  • Be at least 20 years of age.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent (preference for candidates with at least two years of study at an institution of higher education)
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
  • At least one year of youth camp experience, early childhood education, or related experience in roles such as:
    • College Tutor or Teacher Assistant
    • Coach or mentor.
    • A camp counselor or youth activity leader

A candidate's hiring is contingent upon successfully completing and passing a national criminal background check (as required by school districts and education departments) that may include fingerprinting, employment verification, and verification of education.
