ED Registration Clerk

Job Description

ED Registration Clerks responsibilities include registering patients for ancillary departments, admitting inpatients, escorting patients and serving as liaison to physicians, nurses and other department personnel regarding registration/admission while working in a 24/7 high-volume, fluid environment.

Responsibilities

Answers Emergency Department incoming phone calls., Any other duties or responsibilities as assigned by management., Assembles Emergency Department discharge packets., Assists patients with Limited English Proficiency, with the use of language interpretive program/service., Collects copayment at time of service as applicable., Covers other registration clerk locations as needed., Follows all recommended infection control measures., Monitors waiting room for an appropriate and timely flow of the patients needing to be registered or admitted., Obtains correct patient insurance, demographic information and other relevant patient information deemed necessary to register the patient., Obtains patient signature on all required forms., Performs duties as outlined in Policy & Procedure during certain codes (i.e. Code Alert, Code Plan D, etc.), Physical job location changes at four-hour intervals during shift between working up-front receiving walk-in patients and phone calls; versus working in-back receiving ambulance patients and registering patients in exam rooms using a mobile computer cart and radio headset., Pre-admits patients in advance of patient arrival., Promote awareness and enrollment in Financial Assistance, patient portal, Advantage 50, and all other hospital programs as applicable., Receives patients, including via ambulance, into SBL's HIM system using all available resources to connect patients to the correct medical record., Registers patients receiving outpatient and inpatient services at the Health Center in a timely manner., Responsible for cleanliness and tidiness of registration waiting area., Responsible for electronic verification of insurance coverage., Show patience and compassion to visitors and patients waiting and/or receiving emergent care. Handles non-clinical patient requests as able., Visually monitors (cooperatively with Welcome Assistants when present) Entrance E canopy/vestibule and insure staff presence in the Emergency Department lobby at all times., Works directly with Patient Services co-workers, Emergency Department staff, and other hospital staff to facilitate a positive health care experience for the patient.
