Ecosystem Development information

What is ecosystem development?

Ecosystem development refers to the process of creating and nurturing a network of interconnected organizations, individuals, and resources that work together to drive growth, innovation, and sustainability within a specific industry or sector. Professionals in this field focus on building partnerships, supporting startups, facilitating collaboration, and creating opportunities for stakeholders to connect and thrive. The goal is to create a healthy environment where businesses, institutions, and communities can collectively advance shared objectives and adapt to changing market needs.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in ecosystem development roles, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in Ecosystem Development often face the challenge of aligning diverse stakeholders, such as startups, corporations, and public organizations, toward common goals. Navigating differing priorities and communication styles can be complex, requiring strong relationship-building and facilitation skills. To address these challenges, it's important to establish clear communication channels, set shared objectives early, and foster a collaborative environment through regular check-ins and transparent reporting. Proactively seeking feedback and being adaptable to evolving needs can also enhance the success of ecosystem initiatives.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an ecosystem development professional, and why are they important?

To thrive in Ecosystem Development, you need expertise in partnership management, business development, and strategic planning, often supported by a background in business, marketing, or related fields. Familiarity with CRM systems, data analytics tools, and industry-specific platforms is typically required. Exceptional networking, communication, and negotiation skills help build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders. These abilities are crucial for expanding the organization's reach, fostering innovation, and driving sustainable growth within complex business environments.

What is the difference between Ecosystem Development vs Business Development?

• Develop compelling business cases demonstrating value through:

oReduction in Days Sales Outstanding (DSO)
oLower cost-to-collect through digitization
• Engage directly with senior stakeholders (CFOs, Treasurers, Heads of AR/Collections) to drive adoption beyond traditional payments teams
Industry & Use Case Development
• Build deep expertise across priority B2B verticals (e.g., wholesale trade, distribution, logistics, fuel, and high-volume supplier networks)
• Analyze value chains and payment flows, including invoice-driven collections and supplier-buyer relationships
• Identify opportunities where card solutions can replace or complement A2A transfers, bank payments, and manual processes
• Develop repeatable industry playbooks and scalable go-to-market approaches across LAC markets
Internal Leadership & Enablement
• Act as the regional champion for Corporate Acceptance within the Corporate Solutions organization
• Collaborate cross-functionally to shape and deliver scalable products, solutions, and commercial frameworks
• Develop educational collateral and enablement tools to drive ecosystem-wide adoption
• Ensure efficient and strategic allocation of resources to maximize impact and deliver against regional objectives
Experience & Qualifications
Experience
• 8-12+ years of experience in B2B payments, merchant acquiring, working capital solutions, or business development
• Proven track record of delivering commercial payment volume growth and executing complex, large-scale deals
• Strong experience working with issuers, acquirers, fintechs, and corporate clients in B2B environments
• Demonstrated expertise in Accounts Receivable, collections, or invoice-based payment flows
Knowledge & Expertise
• Deep understanding of:
oB2B payments ecosystem and commercial card solutions
oMerchant & commerce landscape and acquiring economics
oWorking capital dynamics (DSO, liquidity, cash conversion cycles)
• Strong knowledge of alternatives to cards (bank transfers, A2A, RTPs) and how to position card solutions competitively
• Familiarity with ERP systems, accounting workflows
Skills & Capabilities
• Strong commercial acumen with ability to translate complex operational challenges into scalable solutions
• Executive-level communication and consultative sales skills, with experience engaging senior finance stakeholders
• Highly analytical and data-driven, with the ability to generate insights and inform strategy
