Part-Time Rec & Ed Intern

Parkway-Rockwood Community Ed is a partnership between the Parkway and Rockwood School Districts that provides high quality programs and services to enhance the quality of life for residents.

We are currently looking for a part-time Rec & Ed Intern. Gain valuable, hands-on experience while playing an important role in our recreation and education programs by supporting both Community Ed staff and program participants in the areas of youth, adults and family programs. This is a great opportunity for a college student looking to complete required internship or practicum hours.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in program planning and implementation of programs
  • Provide support to program participants who require assistance
  • All other duties and responsibilities assigned to support all departments of Parkway-Rockwood Community Ed

Requirements

Must have ability to provide own transportation to locations in the Parkway and Rockwood School Districts and be able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends as needed. Minimum of one year completed coursework from an accredited college or university towards a recreation or education degree preferred. Experience working with youth or adults in any capacity required. The position will be based at the Community Ed office on the campus of Ellisville Elementary in Ellisville, MO.

Position Summary: As a member of the Community Ed team, the intern provides support to the Community Ed department as needed while working as a team member to ensure effort further the mission of Community Ed in the Parkway and Rockwood School Districts.

Essential Functions

  1. Assist in the execution of assigned tasks as determined by the supervisor.
  2. Assist in documenting program information, maintain databases and other moderately complex tasks as directed.
  3. Ensure accepted quality program standards as well as department philosophies and guidelines.
  4. Maintain positive working relationships with internal and external constituents.
  5. Coordinate and assist with special events and activities of department as needed.
  6. Maintain accurate timekeeping records.
  7. Attend staff meetings as required.
  8. Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to complete work with minimum direction or instruction.
  • Possess strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must work well as part of a team and individually.
  • Ability to access locations through the Parkway and Rockwood School Districts as needed.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule as needed, including nights and weekends.
  • Ability to bend, twist, lift and manipulate equipment, supplies and mail.

Basic Requirements

  1. Minimum two years completed course work from an accredited college or university preferred in field relevant to internship preferred.
  2. Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment on multiple projects at the same time.
  3. Working knowledge of Google Workspaces and Microsoft Office software.

Program equipment as applicable.

Work Environment

  1. Within assigned indoor and outdoor locations within Parkway and Rockwood School Districts, which may include during inclement weather.
  2. While performing duties of this job, employee is regularly required to sit, talk, hear, walk, stand and reach.

Parkway-Rockwood Community Ed is a self-funded department and is not funded through the district's general operating budget. All positions are contingent upon the ongoing financial viability of the Community Ed program.
