Job description

In partnership with Drew Estate, we are seeking a Controller/Accounting Manager to be responsible for overseeing the accounting operations for J.Sann & Son, a newly launched cigar brand to include small-batch manufacturing, cigar bar and restaurant, and retail in Miami, FL. You will ensure the integrity and accuracy of financial reporting, compliance with accounting standards, and drive business results for delivery of financial targets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own all accounting and financial operations across three consolidated entities, including general ledger, payroll accounting oversight, intercompany activity, and financial controls
  • Own and manage consolidated cash flow across all three operations, including liquidity planning, funding coordination, cash and credit collections, chargebacks, and timely bank and payment processor reconciliations
  • Lead the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes and produce accurate, timely consolidated financial statements
  • Establish, maintain, and improve accounting policies, processes, and internal controls appropriate for a growing, multi-entity business
  • Lead system implementations, integrations, and automation efforts across accounting, payroll, and reporting
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and scenario analysis, including entity-level and consolidated views
  • Manage relationships with auditors, tax advisors, banking partners, and other external stakeholders
  • Drive and support ad hoc financial analyses, strategic initiatives, and special projects as requested by ownership or senior leadership

Manufacturing

  • Own all manufacturing accounting, including standard costing, inventory valuation, and cost of goods sold for cigar production
  • Oversee inventory transfers/sales between warehouses and related parties
  • Manage federal and state excise tax calculations, accruals, and payments, including timing differences related to bonded vs tax-paid inventory

Hospitality

  • Oversee revenue recognition, daily sales close, and POS-to-GL reconciliation, ensuring completeness and accuracy of reported sales
  • Manage labor cost accounting, including hourly payroll, tips, tip pooling, and related payroll tax implications
  • Monitor and analyze food, beverage, and cigar margins, including purchase price variance, waste, comps, and shrink

E-Commerce

  • Support integration and ongoing maintenance between e-commerce platforms, fulfillment systems, and the general ledger
  • Ensure accurate accounting for returns, allowances, and reserves, including consistent policies and documentation

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 5+ years’ related experience
  • Experience in the hospitality industry
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and multi-entity accounting
  • Experience managing close processes and consolidated financial reporting
  • Demonstrated ability to manage cash flow, working capital, and liquidity
  • Experience with inventory accounting and cost accounting environments
  • Comfort operating in a hands-on, fast-moving, small-company environment
  • Knowledge of inventory management and accounting software
  • Knowledge of POS systems (Toast) and their integrations to accounting software
