Turner Industries Group, LLC has an opening for a Material Handler to join our team in the Salt Lake City, UT area. The Material Handler will be responsible for the physical receipt, storage, and distribution of production materials. This position will also require involvement in conducting physical inventories and count discrepancy resolution, management of non-conforming materials, and interface with purchasing and production departments regarding material issues. This role also requires working knowledge of material shipments and logistics, goods receipt and document control, purchase order tracking and procurement support, field coordination and reporting, and continuous improvment mindset. Non-exempt role; Reports to the Foreman; Assigned duties according to specific procedures / work is checked frequently.


Qualification Standards:

  • High school diploma preferred with a minimum of one year's experience in Materials or Operations supplemented with OJT
  • Must possess good written and oral communication skills
  • Sound basic math skills
  • Computer literacy - Google Workspace
  • Communication, interpersonal, organizational and problem solving skills
  • Forklift operation experience, preferred
  • Ability to perform job duties with a high degree of accuracy
  • Due to large work areas sometimes involved, must be able to perform job duties with limited direct supervision
  • Possess working knowledge of standard material receiving and internal distribution practices
  • Working knowledge of material shipments and logistics, goods receipt and document control, purchase order tracking and procurement support, field coordination and reporting, and continuous improvment
  • Post offer drug / alcohol screen, physical evaluation, and signed acceptance of the Turner Industries Drug, Alcohol and Contraband Policy
  • Comply with company and client job site safety requirements
  • Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of others in the workplace


Functional Requirements:

Receives material, checks for, documents, and reports any damage, and validates shipping documents; adds required markings to received material, completes required documentation on packing slips and tally sheets, then safely transports and places materials in designated storage areas; reviews pull sheets for material to be delivered to production areas, determines delivery destinations and most efficient handling process, and, for pipe, optimum quantities; makes material deliveries to shop and documents deliveries; routinely checks storage areas for needed maintenance for reasons of safety, preservation, and marking; conducts and documents physical counts of material for job close-outs and annual count reconciliation to book inventory; monitors mobile equipment, slings, cables, chains, lifting beams, etc. for safety issues and reports any concerns to supervision; may fill in for supervisor during absences; perform additional assignments per supervisor's direction

Compensation:

Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience.

Physical Involvement:

Employee may be required to do the following: climbing ladders, scaffolds, structures, etc. above and below ground level; maintaining balance on ladders, scaffolds structures, etc.; reaching in all directions, handling and manipulating objects and materials; coordinating the movements of eyes, hands and fingers to operate tools and equipment; lifting 30 to 100 pounds from ground level, waist level, and/or overhead; carrying objects, tools, equipment, etc.; standing; sitting; walking; pushing; pulling; bending; kneeling; crouching/squatting; crawling; seeing with or without correction; hearing with or without correction.
