The Senior Project Controller is a key member of the regional Project Controlling team and reports to the Regional Head of Project Controlling and Administration. In this role, you will partner closely with Project Managers to minimize commercial risks, optimize project financial performance, and maximize revenue and cash flow. You will be responsible for full-cycle project financials, including contract review, project accounting quality assurance, expenditure validation, revenue recognition, and WIP management. This role is essential to fostering a culture of accountability, commercial awareness, and operational excellence.
This position will be located in our Houston, TX office, presenting a dynamic hybrid schedule where employees will typically spend three (3) days per week working from either a DNV office or client location/site. Further details regarding role-specific requirements will be shared during the interview process.
What You'll Do
  • Monitor, analyze, and report on project financial performance; provide actionable insights and guidance.
  • Proactively initiate accurate and timely invoicing in line with customer contracts and global procedures.
  • Serve as a strategic business partner to Project and Line Managers, leading regular financial reviews across active portfolios.
  • Ensure revenue recognition aligns with IFRS 15 and internal project accounting principles (including percent of completion, time & material, matching, and accrual methodologies).
  • Challenge and validate inputs from Project Managers and Line Management; proactively engage PMs on required change orders.
  • Lead monthly project review meetings with PMs; perform expenditure checks, document review outcomes, and direct Administrators on follow-up actions.
  • Manage and maintain accurate project financial records; monitor project life-cycle progress to ensure timely completion and closure.
  • Oversee Work in Progress (WIP) balances, ensuring collectability and initiating actions to minimize exposure.
  • Identify and escalate high-risk project items to Business Controllers as needed.
  • Support operational processes such as time-card compliance and supplier invoice workflow resolution.
  • Provide PMs and staff with financial support while promoting commercial awareness across the organization.
  • Maintain documentation of all financial activities to facilitate future audits and follow-up by Business Controllers or Global Shared Services.
  • Perform thorough financial checks during project closing, ensuring invoice alignment and identifying potential write-offs or positive adjustments.

Qualifications
What is Required
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, Business Administration, or related discipline.
  • Strong knowledge of project financial management and project management principles.
  • Quality-driven mindset with a passion for continuous improvement.
  • Self-motivated with excellent organizational skills and a structured approach to work.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including proficiency with pivot tables and VLOOKUP and report building.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively.
  • We conduct pre-employment Drug and background screenings.

What is Preferred
  • Minimum 5 years of project accounting or finance experience; experience in a professional services environment is preferred.
  • Experience with Power BI and financial ERPs (Oracle, SAP, or similar) is highly preferred.
  • Fluent in revenue recognition methods in line with IFRS 15 principles (such as POC and time and material principles) and project accounting principles
  • AI in Finance: Experience applying artificial intelligence and machine learning tools to financial processes such as forecasting, budgeting, risk analysis, or operational efficiency improvements.
  • Tools: Copilot, Power BI AI features, Python-based analytics, or AI-enabled ERP/financial systems
