As an armed security specialist, you will be responsible for patrolling the campus on weekdays and weekends and assisting with events as needed. Your primary role will be to ensure the safety and security of students, staff, and visitors on campus during your shifts. You will be expected to patrol the campus on foot, monitor surveillance equipment, and report any suspicious or unauthorized activity. Strong communication skills and the ability to interact with individuals from diverse backgrounds are essential for this role. You will be expected to work closely with other members of the security team and collaborate with local law enforcement agencies when necessary.

This is an hourly position working up to 25 hours per week. The scheduled hours will be between 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Monday through Thursday, and 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Friday. Occasionally, a Saturday may be required. Pay is $25 per hour.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the safety and security of staff, students, and visitors, and the protection of College property
  • Secures premises by patrolling property; monitoring surveillance equipment; inspecting buildings, equipment, and access points; permitting entry
  • Completing investigations and incident reports for injuries, violations of laws, violations of Student Code of Conduct, violations of Dixie Tech Policy, and insurance claims
  • Informs violators of policies and procedures
  • Issues trespass warnings as required
  • Help enforce Student Code of Conduct as assigned
  • De-escalate conflicts
  • Notifies SGPD of incidents as seeks their assistance as needed
  • Administer drug tests and background checks
  • Provide traffic control on campus where needed
  • Interviewing witnesses
  • Maintains organization's stability and reputation by complying with legal requirements
  • Complete required training for the state Utah
  • Assist students, staff, and visitors with motor vehicle troubles
  • Maintain lost and found
  • Help maintain/control keys and access
  • Updating and maintaining security logs
  • Reports irregularities to the Associate Director of Facilities
  • Ensure that students and staff are treated respectfully and equally without regard to their race, color, religion, sex, age (40 or over), national origin, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, pregnancy, childbirth, or pregnancy-related condition. Report all violations immediately to HR or Student Services
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Must be able to acquire DOPL Certified Armed Security License
  • Must provide your own approved firearm
  • Must be comfortable and proficient with firearms
  • Valid Driver's license and a clean driving record needed
  • Must have 3 years of security, law enforcement, or job-related experience
  • Must be able to deal with (and de-escalate) frustrated, uncooperative, and aggressive individuals in a calm and competent manner
  • Must maintain physical condition, which includes balance, coordination, muscle strength, flexibility, agility, speed/quickness, and cardiovascular endurance
  • Must be able to stand or walk for long periods and lift and carry heavy objects
  • Compliance with Dixie Tech Policies and Procedures
  • Must be at least 21 years old for licensing purposes
