What is a divorce coach?

A divorce coach is a trained professional who provides emotional support, guidance, and practical strategies to individuals going through a divorce. Unlike lawyers or therapists, divorce coaches focus on helping clients manage the process, make informed decisions, and communicate effectively with their ex-partner, legal team, and family members. They help clients set goals, reduce conflict, and navigate the emotional and logistical challenges of divorce, aiming to make the transition smoother and less stressful.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a divorce coach, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Divorce Coach, you need a background in counseling, coaching, or a related field, often supported by relevant certifications such as CDC Certified Divorce Coach. Familiarity with communication tools, online coaching platforms, and basic legal or financial systems relevant to divorce is helpful. Strong soft skills like empathy, active listening, and conflict resolution help clients navigate emotional and practical challenges. These competencies enable a Divorce Coach to provide effective support, guidance, and empowerment during a difficult life transition.

What are some unique challenges a divorce coach faces when supporting clients through high-conflict separations?

Divorce Coaches often encounter clients experiencing intense emotions and contentious disputes, which can make it challenging to maintain neutrality and facilitate productive communication. Navigating these high-conflict situations requires strong emotional intelligence, patience, and boundary-setting skills to ensure the client's well-being while keeping the process constructive. Coaches must also collaborate closely with legal professionals and mental health practitioners to provide comprehensive support, making clear communication and teamwork essential. This environment can be emotionally demanding, but it offers opportunities to make a significant positive impact on clients' lives during a difficult transition.

What is the difference between Divorce Coach vs Mediator?

AspectDivorce CoachMediator
CredentialsLife coaching certification, specialized training in divorce supportCertified mediator, legal or conflict resolution training
Work EnvironmentOne-on-one coaching sessions, emotional support focusFacilitated negotiations between parties, legal context

Job description

Now Hiring: Strategic Growth Leader

Location: Rockville, MD

Salary: $130,000 - $150,000 base + performance-based commissions

Are you a data-obsessed marketer who views every dollar spent as a seed that must return 10x? At Divorce With A Plan, we don’t just "do marketing"—we drive a growth engine. We are looking for a Rainmaker: a leader who can deliver the right leads, at the right time, and in the right mindset to engage our firm.

This is a high-stakes, high-reward role for a strategist who has successfully scaled a firm and is ready to do it again.

Compensation:

$130,000 - $150,000 yearly

Responsibilities:

Strategic "Rainmaking" & Execution

  • Annual Planning: Develop and own the firm’s comprehensive Marketing Plan (due January 15th each year) aligned with aggressive revenue targets.
  • 10x ROI Campaigns: Execute a minimum of 4 major multi-channel campaigns annually, ensuring every effort has a clear call to action and a hypothesis for measurable results.
  • Weekly Data Accountability: Monitor lead volume, source, and quality weekly. Submit performance metrics (KPI reports) to the Owner every Friday.
  • Content & Social Consistency: Ensure a daily social media presence, oversee advertising and promotion activities, including print, radio, TV, online, email, and direct mail tactics. Ensures a monthly firm newsletter is published on time, every time.

SEO, CRM & Digital Infrastructure

  • Conversion Optimization: Oversee technical SEO and website audits to ensure high-value keywords (Divorce, Custody) convert at elite levels.
  • CRM Mastery: Manage and optimize our CRM systems (Clio/Lawmatics) to track the lead-to-client journey with surgical precision.
  • Lead Generation: Plan and optimize paid advertising (Google Ads/Social) targeting high-intent family law leads.

Team Leadership & Culture

  • Vendor Management: Select, vet, and project-manage outside contractors (SEO, Graphic Design, Web Dev) to ensure 100% accountability.
  • Coaching & Training: Create a firm-wide culture of "rainmaking" by coaching staff on networking tactics (the FORM process - Family, Occupation, Recreation, Message).
  • Compliance: Ensure 100% of marketing materials comply with State Bar advertising rules and legal ethics.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Proven Growth Track Record: Experience growing a law firm or professional service business by at least 100% over a 3-year period.
  • Data Driven: You must be able to demonstrate a history of achieving a 10x ROI average on past marketing campaigns.
  • Leadership Experience: 5–7 years in strategic marketing leadership with experience managing a $300,000 - $500,000 budget.
  • Technical Stack: Deep proficiency in Google Analytics, SEMrush, Ahrefs, and CRM automation.
  • Communication: Exceptional copywriting and persuasive communication skills.

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with Family Law or high-conflict service marketing.
  • Certifications in Google Ads or HubSpot.
  • Experience with the "Rainmaker" mindset in a fast-paced, goal-oriented environment.
