Division 8 Detailer

Location: Chicago, IL (Open to Remote) Employment Type: Full-Time

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Division 8 Detailer to produce accurate door, frame, and hardware shop drawings and schedules for commercial construction projects. This role is critical to ensuring specifications are correctly interpreted and translated into buildable, code-compliant documentation before procurement and installation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare detailed door, frame, and hardware schedules from architectural specifications and drawings
  • Generate shop drawings for door and frame openings, ensuring accuracy in dimensions, fire ratings, and hardware sets
  • Cross-reference hardware groups against project specifications for compliance and completeness
  • Coordinate with estimators to verify scope, quantities, and buyout accuracy before detailing begins
  • Submit and track shop drawings and hardware schedules through the submittal/approval process
  • Resolve discrepancies between specifications, field conditions, and manufacturer offerings
  • Support RFI responses related to door, frame, and hardware detailing
  • Collaborate with project managers on submittal timelines and revisions
  • Maintain organized documentation for each project's detailing package
Required Qualifications
  • 2+ years of experience detailing Division 8 (doors, frames, hardware) for commercial construction projects
  • Fluency in EPWS/Emullion software required
  • Strong understanding of door hardware sets, fire-rated assemblies, and ADA compliance
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings, specifications, and hardware schedules
  • High attention to detail and accuracy under deadline pressure
  • Strong written communication skills for submittal and RFI documentation
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with additional industry software (e.g., Bluebeam, AutoCAD, Revit)
  • Familiarity with DHI (Door and Hardware Institute) standards or AHC/CDC certification
  • Prior experience with a door/frame/hardware distributor, glazier, or supplier
