Three (3) Paraprofessional Positions Available
SUMMARY OF POSITION: The Paraprofessional provides instructional, behavioral, social-emotional, and personal care support to elementary students under the direction of teachers, building administrators, and other designated staff. The Paraprofessional assists in creating a safe, supportive, and positive learning environment that promotes student success, independence, and well-being.
The Paraprofessional works collaboratively with teachers, students, administrators, and families to support individual student needs and classroom goals. Responsibilities may include assisting students with academic activities, behavior management, personal care needs, lunchroom supervision, and after-school bus supervision. The position may also require participation in professional development and training, working outdoors in various Michigan weather conditions, and performing other duties as assigned by the building principal or teacher.
REPORTS TO: Kurtis Priemer, CES Assistant Principal
COMPENSATION: $13.50 (Probationary) $14.27 (After 90 days probation) As per the Paraprofessional Contract.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Ability to cooperate with teachers, students, and administration; work as part of a Team.
  • Attendance at designated workshops and in-service training sessions are required.
  • Maintain a positive and professional attitude when interacting with students, parents, colleagues, and community members visiting Carrollton Public Schools facilities or programs.
  • Demonstrate competency in technology.
  • Collaborate effectively with teachers, students, and administrative staff.
  • Maintaining a safe environment for students at all times.
  • Must be willing to receive additional training to improve job skills.
  • Ability to ride the bus after school to engage with and manage students
  • Provide support and supervision during the lunch period, including assisting with student needs, maintaining a safe and orderly lunchroom environment, and supporting students as directed by the building administrator or supervising staff.
  • Ability to work outdoors in Michigan weather conditions
  • Other duties as assigned by the building principal or teacher.
  • Successful completion of a probationary period outlined by the Carrollton Association of Paraprofessionals contract.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must have an Associate's degree, or completion of at least two years of study (60 semester hours) at an accredited institution of higher education.
  • If the above are not met, applicants may:
    • Take the College Board SAT (minimum score of 480 in evidence-based reading/writing and 530 in math), or
    • Take the ETS Parapro Assessment and obtain a passing score of 460.
    • The district will cover the cost of either the SAT or ETS Parapro Assessment. Applicants will be given 90 days to successfully pass.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 75 pounds.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.
  • Ability to work well with staff, parents, and students.
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Must be highly sensitive to students with emotional and physical disabilities.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is an essential job expectation.
  • Must be able to work cooperatively with others.
  • Must act in a professional manner.
  • Must receive a satisfactory response to 4205-F Authorization for Release of Information and Employee History Check Under 1996 P.A.189 of 1996; MCL380.1230b.

Must satisfactorily pass:
  • Law enforcement background checks with fingerprinting.
  • Personal and professional reference background check.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and meet requirements to operate District vehicles.
