Description

The Director works to establish a governance body to develop, validate, and implement standards that facilitate the exchange and integration of research data and information. They help direct and manage the development of technology solutions that are reliable, cost-effective, robust, secure, and meet the needs of the Emory University Research Community. The role involves proactively providing services that anticipate needs and can be customized to meet a broad and changing set of functions.

The Director serves as an informatics/technology expert to the Emory University research community and its strategic initiatives. They assist in the development of grants and the design of solutions as well as advocate for the research community. The role includes managing information technology staff and making optimal use of the department's resources. The Director recruits, retains, and fosters the development of highly skilled staff. They manage operational, project, and capital budgets, initiate and prioritize projects, balance resources, identify areas of risk and approaches to manage risks, elevate issues to appropriate leadership, and assist with the delivery of quality projects within time, scope, and budget. The role involves researching and developing innovative technologies and medical/public health informatics methodologies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Leads information services operations for multiple business units.
  • Establishes and administers a budget, serves as a technical expert, and supervises staff who support various operating systems or platforms (such as Unix, NT, Novell, Solaris, Oracle, MVS and/or VMS).
  • Utilizes a knowledge of various operating environments to provide effective leadership.
  • Oversees the administration of and access to organization-wide data, the information system, and hardware/software connectivity.
  • May design and implement specific projects such as distance learning.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A bachelor's degree and seven years of related work experience which includes the design and implementation of highly complex information systems on multiple platforms, OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Previous supervisory, leadership or management experience.
NOTE:

This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to Emory University on a flexible weekly schedule based upon business needs. Schedule is based on agreed upon guidelines of department. This role requires residency in the state of GA. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
