We are seeking an experienced, enthusiastic, and exceptional finance and operations leader to serve as the Director of Finance Operations and Strategic Initiatives for Emory Healthcare.

Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, this position serves as the central point of coordination across the One Finance organization - advancing the Chief Financial Officer's strategic priorities, managing the operating rhythm of the finance leadership team, and ensuring that critical initiatives are executed across a large, complex enterprise.

The role integrates strategic planning, project and initiative management, executive decision support, communications, and operational oversight, and requires a leader who operates with sound judgment, discretion, and a high degree of independence. 

Strategic Planning and Initiative Management

  1. Manages the Chief Financial Officer's portfolio of enterprise priorities and strategic initiatives from concept through execution, ensuring each is appropriately owned, resourced, and tracked to completion
  2. Translates organizational strategy into actionable plans with clear objectives, owners, milestones, and timelines, and monitors progress against established commitments
  3. Leads cross-functional projects and initiatives that span multiple teams or functions, convening the appropriate stakeholders and driving work to decision and resolution
  4. Identifies risks, dependencies, and barriers early, and escalates or resolves them to keep priority work on schedule

Operating Cadence and Governance

  1. Establishes and manages the operating rhythm of the finance leadership team, including meeting agendas, pre-read materials, documentation of decisions, and follow-through on action items
  2. Maintains the annual operating calendar to ensure that planning, budgeting, board, and leadership review cycles occur on schedule
  3. Designs and facilitates leadership meetings, planning sessions, and retreats that produce clear decisions and measurable outcomes
  4. Supports accountability for commitments made within leadership forums and tracks them through to closure

Board and Finance Committee Governance

  1. Manages the Emory Healthcare Board of Directors Finance Committee on behalf of the Chief Financial Officer, including meeting preparation, agenda development, and the production of committee materials
  2. Coordinates closely with the Chief of Governance for the Emory Healthcare Board of Directors on committee scheduling, logistics, and the timely flow of materials to committee members
  3. Translates complex financial and operational matters into clear, decision-ready materials that frame the strategic content of Finance Committee meetings
  4. Works closely with the University Chief Financial Officer and the Office of the Secretary of Emory University to align Finance Committee work with the Board of Trustees when necessary

Executive Decision Support

  1. Prepares the Chief Financial Officer for board meetings, executive forums, and high-priority engagements, including framing key questions, developing options, and presenting recommendations
  2. Synthesizes complex financial and operational information into concise briefings and decision-ready materials
  3. Anticipates the informational and operational needs of the Chief Financial Officer and prepares materials in advance
  4. Represents the Office of the Chief Financial Officer in select meetings and working groups as delegated

Communication and Stakeholder Engagement

  1. Drafts executive communications, including memoranda, presentations, talking points, and leadership messaging, on behalf of the Chief Financial Officer
  2. Serves as a primary point of coordination between the Office of the Chief Financial Officer and leaders across Finance, Operations, the People Team, Legal, and the broader health system
  3. Builds and maintains trusted relationships across the enterprise while handling confidential financial, personnel, and strategic matters with discretion

Operational Integration and Process Improvement

  1. Identifies operational gaps, inefficiencies, and handoff issues across the finance organization and implements solutions
  2. Develops and strengthens the structures, processes, and tools that support effective and scalable finance operations
  3. Assumes ownership of ambiguous or emerging issues and manages them through to resolution

Additional Duties as Assigned

Travel: Travel between Emory operating units and affiliated sites

Work Type: Hybrid employee - may split time between working remotely and working in the office

Minimum Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, healthcare administration, or a related field
  • Eight (8) years of progressive, related experience, including a minimum of five (5) years managing complex projects, initiatives, and/or staff
  • Experience directly supporting senior executive leadership is required

Knowledge, skills, and abilities (required):

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex initiatives simultaneously and drive them to completion
  • Strong organizational, project management, and analytical skills, with consistent attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to synthesize complex information into clear, concise materials
  • Sound judgment and the ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with complete discretion
  • Ability to build relationships and influence outcomes across teams without direct reporting authority
  • Ability to work independently, manage ambiguity, and remain effective in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment
  • Advanced proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, and Word

Preferred Qualifications

  • Education: Advanced degree (MBA, MHA, or equivalent)
  • Experience: Experience within a large, matrixed academic health system or integrated healthcare organization

Knowledge, skills, and abilities (preferred): 

  • Familiarity with financial planning, budgeting, and performance management processes
  • Experience supporting executive- or board-level governance
