Job description

Are you passionate about working with children, leading a team, and making a meaningful impact in your community? The YMCA of Greater Richmond is seeking a positive, energetic, and experienced Youth Development Center Director to lead our after-school child care program at the Shady Grove Family YMCA.

What You'll Do
As the Youth Development Center Director, you'll play a vital role in shaping high-quality programming and building strong relationships with children, families, staff, and school partners. Your responsibilities will include:
  • Designing, planning, and implementing engaging, age-appropriate developmental programs
  • Overseeing day-to-day operations of the child care center
  • Supervising and mentoring on-site staff
  • Creating a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for school-age children
  • Building strong relationships with children and families and serving as a key point of communication
  • Collaborating with school officials and YMCA leadership
  • Ensuring compliance with Virginia DOE licensing requirements and YMCA quality standards
  • Managing site safety, equipment, and facilities
  • Attending and leading required child care trainings
  • Supporting program administration, budgeting, and staffing needs

What You Bring
We're looking for a confident, compassionate leader who is ready to make a difference. Ideal candidates will have:
  • Experience supervising staff and supporting program operations
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Experience leading groups of youth
  • A positive, enthusiastic leadership style
  • A valid driver's license with a good driving record
  • Virginia DOE licensing qualifications (college-level coursework in a related field or CDA required)
  • Must be at least 21 years old
