Develop, implement, and continuously improve Zimmer Biomet's global physical security strategy in alignment with ESRM principles and business priorities.
Conduct site vulnerability assessments, security risk analyses, and oversee security investigations, establishing risk mitigation plans and recommending capital projects.

Job description
At Zimmer Biomet, we believe in pushing the boundaries of innovation and driving our mission forward. As a global medical technology leader for nearly 100 years, a patient's mobility is enhanced by a Zimmer Biomet product or technology every 8 seconds.
As a Zimmer Biomet team member, you will share in our commitment to providing mobility and renewed life to people around the world. To support our talent team, we focus on development opportunities, robust employee resource groups (ERGs), a flexible working environment, location specific competitive total rewards, wellness incentives and a culture of recognition and performance awards. We are committed to creating an environment where every team member feels included, respected, empowered and recognised.
The Associate Director, Global Physical Security provides strategic leadership for Zimmer Biomet's enterprise-wide physical security program, protecting people, property, products, and intellectual assets across all global manufacturing, distribution, office, and R&D facilities. This role is responsible for developing and executing a risk-based global security strategy aligned with enterprise security risk management (ESRM) principles and business priorities, as well as spearheading a standardized business continuity program.
The Associate Director leads security governance, site vulnerability assessments, travel security, executive protection, crisis management, investigations, and guard force operations. Reporting to the Vice President of Operations, this leader partners cross-functionally with EHS, Facilities, IT Security, Legal, Human Resources, and Supply Chain to ensure a converged, intelligence-led approach to organizational resilience. The role requires a hands-on security executive who can operate strategically at the enterprise level while driving consistent, standards-based execution across a diverse global footprint.
- Develop, implement, maintain, and continuously improve Zimmer Biomet's global physical security strategy in alignment with ESRM principles, ASIS International standards (PAP, ESRM Guidelines), and business priorities across all regions and site types.
- Conduct and oversee site vulnerability assessments, physical penetration testing, and security risk analyses across the global facility portfolio; establish risk mitigation plans and capital project recommendations based on findings.
- Lead and manage all security investigations including theft, fraud, workplace violence, and threats; coordinate with law enforcement and legal counsel, and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence
- Establish global governance, standards, and technology specifications for physical security systems (access control, video surveillance/CCTV, intrusion detection, alarm systems, perimeter controls) and drive platform standardization to enable centralized monitoring and a Global Security Operations Center (GSOC) capability. Ensure video surveillance/CCTV follows applicable Privacy policies and regulations.
- Design and manage travel security and executive protection programs, including pre-travel risk assessments, real-time traveler tracking, destination threat briefings, emergency protocols, and coordination with third-party security providers for high-risk regions.
- Lead crisis management and emergency response planning in coordination with EHS, Facilities, and Business Continuity; develop and exercise site-specific emergency action plans, active threat response procedures, and business continuity protocols across all global locations.
- Champion security convergence by partnering cross-functionally with IT Security, Legal, HR, Supply Chain, EHS, and Facilities to ensure a holistic, integrated approach to enterprise risk management and organizational resilience.
- Develop and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) and security metrics aligned with enterprise goals; provide executive-level reporting on security risk posture, incident trends, program effectiveness, and return on security investment.
- Select, manage, and evaluate third-party contract guard forces, security integrators, and master service agreement vendors; define performance standards, conduct audits, and ensure compliance with workmanship and service-level requirements globally.
- Design, deliver, and manage global security awareness training programs including workplace violence prevention, active threat response, emergency evacuation, visitor and contractor management, and site-specific security orientations; appoint and develop regional security coordinators at locations without dedicated security staff.
- Cultivate and maintain effective liaison relationships with federal, state, and local law enforcement, intelligence agencies, emergency responders, industry bodies (ASIS International), and private-sector security counterparts; ensure compliance with applicable local, national, and international security regulations across all operating jurisdictions.
This is not an exhaustive list of duties or functions and may not necessarily comprise all of the "essential functions" for purposes of the ADA.
- Demonstrated expertise in enterprise security risk management (ESRM), physical asset protection, and the ASIS International standards framework; proven ability to implement and enhance global security programs, governance structures, policies, and standard operating procedures.
- Strong knowledge of physical security technologies including physical access control systems (PACS), video management systems (VMS), intrusion detection, alarm monitoring, perimeter security, and emerging analytics; ability to support enterprise technology standards and coordinate global system deployments.
- Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence leaders, operate effectively in a matrixed global organization, and build collaborative relationships across diverse cultures and functions.
- Strong capabilities in crisis management, emergency response planning, threat assessment, investigations management, and business continuity planning; skilled in conducting security audits, cost-benefit analyses, and program effectiveness evaluations.
- Strong understanding of geopolitical risk, international security operations, travel security, executive support, guard force management, vendor oversight, and security compliance across multiple jurisdictions; proficiency with security metrics development and leadership reporting.
- Bachelor's degree in Security Management, Criminal Justice, Business Administration, International Relations, Emergency Management, or a related field required. Master's degree preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in corporate/physical security, risk management, or related leadership roles, with at least 5 years in a global or multi-site environment; experience in manufacturing, or other highly regulated industries strongly preferred.
- ASIS Certified Protection Professional (CPP) required or must be obtained within 18 months of hire. Physical Security Professional (PSP) certification strongly preferred. ALICE or equivalent active threat response certification preferred.
- Demonstrated experience managing third-party security providers, guard forces, and vendor relationships. Background in military, law enforcement, or intelligence services is valued.
