Department Overview

This role belongs to the Global Technology Infrastructure & Operations team (GTIO). Our mission is to provide modern, relevant technology that supports McDonald’s operations. We offer core technology products and services such as Global Networking, Cloud, End User Computing, and IT Service Management. We aim to deliver an engaging, relevant, and straightforward experience for our customers.


The Senior Manager, Edge Operations/SRE plays a crucial role within the Edge Operations and SRE group in Global Technology Infrastructure & Operations. This position is accountable for maintaining the reliability, scalability, and operational excellence of the Edge computing platform that underpins McDonald’s worldwide restaurant technology network.


You will join forces with Architecture, Platform Engineering, and Security teams to apply observability, automation, and incident response approaches. This work keeps the Edge platform reliable and maintainable. This role offers an outstanding opportunity to influence the operational development of a global platform and foster ongoing improvements in infrastructure and services.


Duties

  • Lead 24x7x365 operations of edge infrastructure, ensuring high availability, reliability, and efficient performance.

  • Coordinate and own the delivery of GDC upgrades across the markets.

  • Lead the operational initiatives including monitoring, alerting, and observability to proactively detect and resolve issues.

  • Lead initiatives to automate day-to-day operational tasks and reduce toil.

  • Collaborate with Edge Readiness and Deployment teams and markets during the pilot to guarantee a smooth transition to Operations.

  • Mentor and manage a team of engineers and operations specialists across multiple geographies.

  • Drive the adoption of SRE guidelines, including SLIs/SLOs, error budgets, and incident management.

  • Collaborate with Edge Platform Vendor and Managed Service Partner to guarantee SLAs are fulfilled and consistently improved.

  • Ensure all edge operations align with security guidelines and meet relevant regulatory and compliance standards.

  • Collaborate closely with Platform Engineering, Application, Segment, and Market teams to ensure edge operations are aligned with business objectives.

  • Coordinate with Market Operations and other Global Tech Operations teams to complete changes on the edge platform following global and market-specific change management processes.

  • Promote an environment of continual progress, knowledge sharing, and operational excellence within the team.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

  • Strong working knowledge of Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure as code (e.g., Terraform, Ansible).

  • 10+ years of experience in infrastructure, On-Prem/Public Cloud, or SRE roles, with at least 3 years in a leadership capacity.

  • Proven experience managing edge platforms, or hybrid cloud environments.

  • Experience with monitoring and observability tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, New Relic).

  • Experience driving and leading automation initiatives to reduce toil and improve efficiency.

  • Excellent communication, leadership, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

  • Experience in directing and establishing collaborations with Vendors and Managed Service partners to generate business value.

  • Established background in directing Operations/SRE teams across a complex multinational environment.

  • Strong knowledge and experience with GCP and/or AWS cloud infrastructure.

The expected salary range for this role is $152,678.00 - $190,847.00 per year
