Job description

Position Summary Mettle Ops is a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) and SBA 8(a) certified defense contractor with multiple operating subsidiaries spanning engineering services, production & kitting, procurement, and commercial drone sales. We are seeking a Director of Finance to serve as the senior financial leader responsible for all accounting, financial reporting, government contract finance, and compliance functions across the Mettle Ops family of companies. This role owns the full scope of financial operations-from day-to-day general ledger management through DCAA-auditable indirect rate structures, bank covenant compliance, and executive-level financial reporting. The Director of Finance partners directly with the CEO and Contracts Manager on program financial performance, proposal pricing, and strategic initiatives including M&A integration and ERP implementation

Core Responsibilities Financial Reporting & General Ledger Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process across all entities, including consolidating and eliminating intercompany transactions. Prepare executive financial reporting packages: P&L trends, balance sheet analysis, gross profit margin by program, budget vs. actual variance analysis, and trailing-twelve-month dashboards.

Maintain the general ledger in the ERP system (Deltek Costpoint), ensuring accurate cost pool allocations and job-cost postings. Perform monthly bank and credit card reconciliations and manage accounts payable/receivable functions. Government Contract Finance & DCAA Compliance Design, maintain, and defend the indirect rate structure (Fringe, Overhead, G&A cascading pools) in accordance with FAR Part 31 cost principles and CAS requirements.

Prepare and submit incurred cost proposals and support DCAA/DCMA audits, rate negotiations, and forward pricing rate submissions. Build and maintain program-level Estimates at Completion (EACs), including cost performance tracking for CPFF, FFP, and T&M contract types. Support proposal pricing efforts with fully burdened labor rate calculations, basis of estimate documentation, and cost volume development for government solicitations.

Ensure ASC 606 / percentage-of-completion revenue recognition is properly applied and documented across all active contracts. Banking, Lending & Covenant Compliance Prepare and submit periodic bank covenant compliance packages including Fixed Charge Coverage Ratio (FCCR) and Debt-to-Tangible Net Worth calculations on a consolidating basis. Serve as the primary point of contact for banking and lending relationships, including revolving credit facilities, term loans, and equipment financing.

Manage loan draw requests, paydown schedules, and borrowing base certificate submissions. Evaluate and negotiate lending terms, credit facility structures, and covenant modifications to support business growth and acquisition activity. Monitor cash position and liquidity across all entities, coordinating intercompany funding and working capital needs.

ERP & Systems Lead the ongoing Deltek Costpoint implementation and optimization, including chart of accounts design, indirect rate pool configuration, and user training. Serve as the functional owner of all financial systems and oversee data integrity across platforms. Strategic Finance & M&A Support Support acquisition due diligence, purchase price allocation analysis, and post-close integration of acquired entities (financial systems migration, compliance certification transfers, backlog reconciliation).

Maintain buyer-ready financial documentation, KPI dashboards, and normalized EBITDA schedules in support of long-term strategic positioning. Provide financial modeling and analysis for new business opportunities, contract portfolio evaluations, and capital allocation decisions. Key Competencies Precision & Accountability: Penny-level accuracy in financial reporting with zero tolerance for reconciliation variances.

Government Contracting Fluency: Ability to speak the language of DCAA auditors, contracting officers, and program managers with equal confidence. Executive Communication: Skilled at translating complex financial data into clear, actionable briefings for senior leadership. Systems Thinking: Comfortable navigating multi-entity structures, cascading rate pools, and ERP configurations simultaneously.

Ownership Mentality: Self-directed professional who operates as the single point of accountability for all things financial. Compensation & Benefits Compensation is commensurate with experience and will be benchmarked to DCAA-defensible market data for Director of Finance-level positions in the defense contracting sector. A comprehensive benefits package is provided.
