The Office of Student Finance, a unit within the Controller's Office, plays a critical role in supporting student success by ensuring the efficient and effective management of student accounts, refunds, billings, and tuition processes. Our office provides accurate financial services, improving student access, and maintaining compliance with university, state, and federal regulations.
Responsibilities
The University is seeking a customer-focused and detail-oriented Student Finance Front Desk & Correspondence Advisor to serve as the primary point of contact for students and families visiting the Office of Student Finance or reaching out by email. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys fast-paced, high-volume work and can balance accuracy and professionalism across both in-person and written communication.
Serving as a front-line member of the Student Finance team, the Advisor combines walk-in customer service with primary responsibility for the department's main email inbox, verifying and correcting student account information, accepting and logging payments at the counter, and escalating complex or sensitive matters to Student Accounts Specialist staff for resolution.
What You'll Do
Serve as the face of Student Finance at the front desk
You will greet and triage walk-in visitors, verifying proper assessment of tuition/fees, payment status, financial aid, and waivers, and answering routine account questions. You will provide wayfinding and referrals to partner offices and accept and log payments at the counter in accordance with university cash-handling and internal control procedures.
Own the department's main email inbox
You will serve as primary responder for the department's main student finance email inbox, triaging incoming correspondence and responding directly to routine inquiries using established knowledge articles and templated responses. You will verify and correct student account data as needed to resolve each inquiry.
Know when to escalate
You will identify inquiries, whether walk-in or email, that involve challenging accounts, escalated customer service interactions, or require interpretation of federal or University policy, and refer them to the appropriate Student Accounts Specialist or supervisor with sufficient documentation for timely resolution.
Connect students with the right resources
You will help students connect with external department contacts when appropriate and serve as a liaison between partner offices with financial impact on the student account, such as Financial Aid, the Registrar, and Housing.
Help keep our knowledge current
You will help prepare and maintain common email responses and knowledge articles for our customer relations management software, suggest edits to campus-wide communications and FAQ web pages based on recurring inquiries, and may participate in outreach events assisting students and families on financial matters and University processes and timelines.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree; or a high school diploma/equivalent and four years of relevant experience. (Note: a combination of post high school education and experience equal to four years.)

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in a high-volume, customer-facing role such as a front desk, call center, or retail environment.
• Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to compose clear, professional email correspondence.
• Strong multitasking and prioritization skills in an interruption-driven work environment.
• Strong customer service orientation.

Anticipated Salary Range
Commensurate with education and experience; minimum salary of $38,100.
