Job description

Build the Next Era of Commercial Construction at Teague
Teague Electric has built a reputation for quality, precision, and reliability for over 40 years in Kansas City. We are now accelerating the growth of our commercial construction division and looking for a high-impact leader to take it to the next level.
This is not a maintenance role. This is a growth role. We need a proven operator who can lead people, drive revenue, strengthen relationships, improve execution, and build a high-performing commercial division that clients notice.
If you know how to grow teams, win work, hold people accountable, increase profitability, and create momentum, this role was built for you.
Position Summary
The Director of Commercial Electrical Construction will lead and scale Teague's commercial construction operations. This individual will oversee project execution, estimating partnership, field performance, client relationships, business development efforts, and departmental profitability.
You'll be responsible for turning a strong foundation into a dominant market presence. This leader must balance operational excellence with growth strategy. Someone who understands both jobsite realities and boardroom decisions.
What You'll Own
Department Leadership & Growth
  • Lead and develop the commercial construction department of 50+ employees, with a clear growth mindset
  • Build accountability, urgency, and high performance across project managers, estimators, and field teams
  • Establish measurable goals tied to revenue, margin, backlog, productivity, and customer satisfaction
  • Scale the department in a meaningful way; people, revenue, and market presence, not just maintain it
Operational Excellence
  • Oversee execution of commercial electrical projects from preconstruction through closeout
  • Ensure jobs are staffed properly, managed efficiently, and delivered profitably
  • Monitor schedules, manpower, productivity, change orders, risk, and financial performance
  • Identify inefficiencies and implement smarter systems and workflows
Business Development & Market Presence
  • Expand relationships with GCs, developers, owners, vendors, and strategic partners
  • Identify, pursue, and help to close new commercial opportunities across target markets
  • Support pursuit strategy, key presentations, negotiations, and deal closing
  • Elevate Teague's commercial brand in the market
Financial Leadership
  • Own full departmental P&L, including budgeting, forecasting, and performance against growth targets
  • Set financial goals and hold the team accountable to achieving them
  • Drive improvements in gross margin, labor productivity, and backlog quality
  • Operate with a business-owner mindset, balancing growth, risk, and profitability
Team Culture & Standards
  • Lead with presence, urgency, and accountability
  • Inspire teams to raise the bar and expect more from themselves
  • Coach underperformers, develop high performers, and build bench strength
  • Create a culture of ownership, professionalism, and execution

What We're Looking For
  • 10+ years of leadership experience in commercial construction; electrical contracting strongly preferred
  • Proven leadership experience managing multi-layered teams (project managers, estimators, and field teams), ideally ~50 employees
  • Strong understanding of commercial construction project lifecycles, estimating, field operations, and customer management
  • Track record of leading growth initiatives, expanding revenue, backlog, or market presence in a meaningful way
  • Demonstrated ownership of a department or business unit P&L, including budgeting, forecasting, and hitting financial targets
  • Confident leadership presence with the ability to drive accountability and action both as a leader and operator
  • Competitive, ambitious, and motivated to build something elite
Preferred Background
  • Commercial electrical contracting leadership experience
  • Master electrician, journeyman, PM, operations, business development or executive leadership path
  • Experience scaling a department, division, or business unit (not just maintaining steady-state operations)
  • Strong network in the Kansas City commercial construction market

Why This Role Matters
This is one of the most important hires Teague Electric can make. You won't inherit a finished machine, you'll help build one. You'll have the support, reputation, and opportunity to create something elite.
If you want to leave your mark, grow a business unit, and become known for building winning teams, this is your shot.
Compensation & Opportunity
  • Executive-level base salary + performance incentives
  • Benefits package
  • Vehicle allowance/company vehicle (if applicable)
  • Long-term career growth with an established, ambitious company
