Job Description

Position: Network Engineer

Location: Fort Wayne, IN.

Duration: 12 Months

Rate: Open


Position Responsibilities:

Responsible for the management, maintenance and configuration of all hardware related to receiving, processing linear video content within the company's main video network facility in a 24x7 environment.

Regular tasks include, but are not limited to: hardware & content surveillance, completion of scheduled system health & performance tests, identifying resolving system impairments and the commissioning of new and/or replacement of defective hardware.

Working closely with the department Manager, peers and/or vendor support teams, the successful candidate will provide all operational and technical oversight of linear video services, including Tier I and Tier II support; as well as support the development and/or modifications to processes and procedures (daily operations & troubleshooting) for the network and associated systems.

Required Skills & Experience:

Minimum Bachelor's degree or 4+ years of related experience in Cable, Satellite or Telephony industry;

Strong working knowledge of linear video systems in a head-end or IP environment; MPEG2 and MPEG4 experience in ASI & IP multicast environments;  

Working knowledge of the Network OSI model, specifically layers 1, 3 and 4;

Proficient with Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Excel; Working knowledge of Microsoft Access;

Basic IP networking & Network Management Systems (NMS);

Ability to learn new concepts, effectively work under pressure ;

Team player with ability to accurately complete detailed tasks, communicate across function organizations and provide accurate and concise updates to peers and/or executive teams;

Strong organizational, oral, written and presentation skills Desired Skills & Experience Demonstrated working knowledge of Motorola's headend product line;

Experience with MPEG muxing and encoding products, including products from RGB, Arris and Cisco;

TVRO experience, including L-band receiver/decoders/transcoders & C-band/L-band signal analysis Familiar with digital ad-insertion hardware, SCTE30/35 requirements;

Microsoft Access and/or SQL database design experience;

BA/BS technical degree Linear video system surveillance, operation, Tier-1 & Tier-2 troubleshooting & outage restoration;

Including hardware replacement and provisioning in a headend environment.

Administration and management of associated Network Operating system interfaces required to respond to internal and external service requests.

Autonomously identity and troubleshoot problems and implement required repairs in a timely manner.

Responsible for supervision of a team and/or for specific projects or definable portions of larger projects or processes;

creates practices that aid in the successful completion of projects within a product or functional area;

typically reports to Manager.

Uses professional concepts and company policies & procedures to solve a wide range of complex problems in creative and practical ways;

makes recommendations that aid in the successful completion of initiatives within a functional area.

May be involved in one large project at a time;

support schedules to ensure timely completion of the project;

identify appropriate resources needed.

Receives general guidance for the accomplishment of short to medium term goals and operating objectives.

Plans and executes own work.

May exert latitude in determining objectives of assignment.

Provides resolutions to a diverse range of complex problems.

Analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors.

Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods & techniques for obtaining solutions.

Requires a range of skills within a professional discipline including familiarity with principles, theories, concepts and technologies as well as applied knowledge of established procedures, policies and practices.

Bachelor's degree or equivalent - generally requires a minimum of 4 yrs. experience in a related discipline.
