Job description

The Metropolitan Opera is a vibrant home for the most creative and talented singers, conductors, composers, musicians, stage directors, designers, visual artists, choreographers, and dancers form around the world, presenting around 200 opera performances each season with an annual budget exceeding $300M.
The Director, Media Finance works under the direction of the Controller to supervise the Met's Media operations.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Oversee financial operations for domestic and international media distribution partners, including invoicing, cash application, and payment reconciliation.
  • Manage recurring and annual reporting for major broadcast, exhibition, and digital distribution partners.
  • Lead weekly HD ticket sales reporting and forecasting in partnership with Media and Sales leadership.
  • Maintain MOoD amortization schedules and oversee HDT accruals, reconciliations, and monthly journal entries.
  • Serve as business owner for Tessitura financial structures related to media activity, including revenue mapping and system configuration.
  • Provide financial systems leadership for HDT and Access databases, including uploads, table maintenance, and functional troubleshooting.
  • Monitor deferred net position and prepare recognition entries tied to premieres and seasonal programming.
  • Advise on GL corrections and accounting treatment for revenue, payroll, and non-pay transactions.
  • Support annual audit, financial statements, revenue share accounting, and fiscal year-end and season close processes.
  • Act as a senior finance advisor to Media and Operations on process design, policy interpretation, and system issues.

Skills and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or higher; relevant field preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in operational finance, accounting, or revenue systems.
  • Strong knowledge of revenue recognition, reconciliations, journal entries, and audit support in complex, multi-revenue environments.
  • Experience owning or leading enterprise financial systems (e.g., Tessitura, ERPs).
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to translate technical concepts for non-financial stakeholders.
  • Advanced Excel proficiency (complex formulas, pivot tables, data analysis).
  • High level of discretion and professionalism in handling sensitive financial information.
