Medical Director of Ambulatory InformaticsPosition Overview

Our organization is in search of a forward-thinking and collaborative clinician to take on the role of Medical Director of Ambulatory Informatics. This strategic position will involve working closely with the Medical Group, Community Partners, Command IT, the Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO), and the Chief Information Officer (CIO) to harness data, technology, and clinical knowledge to enhance outpatient care across primary care and various specialty practices. The responsibilities of this role are divided between clinical duties and leadership tasks: the individual will maintain an active ambulatory practice using Meditech Expanse for 2-3 days each week while dedicating 2 days to the Medical Director functions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Clinical Informatics Strategy: Develop and implement the vision for ambulatory informatics in partnership with Medical Group and IT leadership.
  • EHR Optimization: Oversee the design, execution, and ongoing enhancement of electronic health record (EHR) workflows, decision support systems, order sets, and clinical pathways aimed at improving outpatient care.
  • Workflow Improvement: Collaborate with clinical departments to pinpoint efficiency gaps, standardize procedures, and apply evidence-based solutions.
  • Project Leadership: Act as the primary clinical consultant on technology initiatives, ensuring they align with best practices, regulatory standards, and organizational objectives.
  • Training and Education: Plan and provide informatics training for new providers, along with ongoing educational programs for clinicians and staff.
  • Team Leadership: Guide and mentor multidisciplinary teams, including analysts, informaticists, and trainers, while promoting collaboration across departments and excellence in service.
  • Vendor and Stakeholder Engagement: Advocate for the ambulatory needs of our organization with Meditech and other vendors, prioritizing enhancements for outpatient workflows.
Required Qualifications
  • Degree and Certification: MD or DO from an accredited institution with active board certification.
  • Clinical Practice: Current experience in ambulatory clinical practice, with the ability to maintain clinical sessions for 2-3 days weekly.
  • Informatics Experience: Background in medical informatics, healthcare technology management, or EHR optimization; familiarity with Meditech Expanse is highly preferred.
  • Process Improvement Skills: Proven track record in workflow optimization, standardization, and development of evidence-based order sets.
  • Communication and Leadership: Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities for effective collaboration with providers, leadership, IT teams, and external vendors.
  • Passion for Improvement: Driven to enhance patient care while simplifying workflows for clinicians and staff.
