Job Title: District Manager
Supervises: Retail Store Managers; Asst. Store Managers
FLSA Status: Salaried Exempt
Pay Range: $95,000-$135,000
Location: North Region - Bellingham, Mt. Vernon, Sedro-Woolley
Position Summary
The District Manager provides leadership, direction, and operational oversight for a defined district of Evergreen Goodwill retail stores. This position is responsible for ensuring standards are met for operational excellence, team development, and financial performance across all assigned locations.
The District Manager works collaboratively with the Senior Director of Stores and other functional leaders in Logistics, People & Culture, Finance, Asset Protection and Marketing to ensure consistency of operations, an excellent donor and customer experience, and alignment with Evergreen Goodwill's mission to provide job training and education through the power of work.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
    • Manage daily retail operations across store locations as assigned to ensure consistent execution of Evergreen Goodwill standards and procedures.
    • Support store teams in achieving sales, production, and operational goals, including donation processing, merchandising, and customer engagement.
    • Monitor and analyze store KPIs (sales, controllable contribution, production flow, and retention) and recommend corrective actions where needed.
    • Conduct regular store visits to assess operations, provide coaching, and ensure compliance with organizational policies and safety standards.
    • Lead the implementation of enterprise initiatives, programs, and rollouts within assigned stores.
    • Collaborate with Logistics to ensure effective donation flow and inventory management from receipt through sale.

People Leadership & Development
    • Directly supervise Store Managers and Assistant Managers, providing guidance, mentorship, and performance feedback.
    • Foster a positive culture of inclusion, accountability, and mission alignment.
    • Partner with People & Culture to support recruitment, onboarding, and retention of qualified retail staff.
    • Develop leadership capabilities within store teams to build internal talent pipelines.
    • Ensure training programs and expectations are consistently applied across locations.

Customer & Community Engagement
    • Champion excellent customer and donor experiences by upholding Evergreen Goodwill service standards.
    • Address customer escalations and service concerns promptly and effectively.
    • Represent Evergreen Goodwill in the community, promoting our mission and fostering local relationships that support donations and partnerships.

Financial & Business Management
    • Manage district-level budgets and ensure stores meet or exceed revenue and expense goals.
    • Review and analyze financial reports to identify opportunities for growth and cost control.
    • Maintain proper staffing levels and scheduling for operational efficiency and customer service.
    • Support the rollout of merchandising and promotional programs to maximize sales impact.
    • Maintain an appropriate communication cadence between stores assigned and the Admin staff.

Cross-Functional Collaboration
    • Partner with key departments (including but not limited to Finance, Marketing, Logistics, People & Culture) to ensure alignment and support for store operations.
    • Participate in operational meetings and provide feedback to improve enterprise processes.
    • Communicate effectively between stores and leadership to ensure transparency and accountability.

Supervisory Responsibilities
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Evergreen Goodwill's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include hiring, training, evaluating performance, addressing employee relations issues, and ensuring compliance with workplace standards and safety policies.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
    • Bachelor's degree in business, Retail Management, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
    • 4-6 years of multi-unit retail management experience required.
    • Demonstrated success building and leading teams, improving store performance, and delivering operational excellence.
    • Experience in nonprofit or mission-driven retail organizations a plus.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    • Strong leadership, coaching, and mentoring abilities.
    • Solid financial acumen with experience managing budgets and analyzing performance data.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Strong organizational and prioritization abilities.
    • Ability to work collaboratively across departments and manage multiple priorities.
    • Commitment to Evergreen Goodwill's mission, values, and equity-focused culture.

Certificates, Licenses, or Registrations
    • Valid Washington State driver's license and proof of insurance required.

Technology Skills
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).
    • Ability to learn and adapt to new software and operational systems.

Physical Requirements
    • Frequent travel between store locations within the district (50%-60%).
    • Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.
    • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. and work in both office, warehouse, and retail environments.

Work Environment
This role requires regular travel between store and production environments. Exposure to dust and moderate noise levels is common. Must have reliable transportation and maintain a flexible schedule to support store operations.
Flexibility to be in Seattle Administrative Office a couple of times per month for All Hands meetings or other.
