About this Position

The Director of Marketing & Fan Engagement will lead the strategy, planning, and execution of marketing and fan experience initiatives for Men's Basketball and additional assigned sports, while serving as the secondary marketing lead for Football. This includes developing & executing:

1. All "in-person" and grassroots-style campus/community marketing initiatives that involve teams, spirit, mascot, etc. while creating advertising strategies and requests in collaboration with -and for execution by- other units that engage in promotion (sales, digital strategy, communications, broadcast production, etc.). Managed distribution channels such as local & campus establishments (schools, sponsors, businesses, clubs, residence halls, etc.), A-frames, bus stops, campus closed circuit TV, chalking, common area signage & activations, etc. This includes development & distribution of collateral, such as posters, schedule cards, flyers, roster cards, game programs, etc. while assisting with distribution of sales collateral. Will include appropriate sales collateral and/or sales rep(s) for any initiatives that could produce in-person sales transactions, e.g. include Student Sales rep at an on-campus pep rally or Group Sales rep at youth league visit.

2. Will serve as main contact with sport coaches, student-athletes, ops directors, sport administrators, spirit, band, mascot, student spirit orgs, videoboard/TV, in-game sponsorships, and others.

3. Event presentation, lead event presentation strategy with a focus on energy, atmosphere, and home-field advantage. Oversee game scripts, entertainment elements, and in-game promotions while working with sponsorship team so that it aligns with those goals in collaboration with Orange Power Studios(videoboard/TV)

4. Attendance & sales promotions develop and execute promotions, theme nights, and incentive programs to drive attendance and ticket sales

5. Developing & leading fan experience feedback programs, such as surveys and focus groups (including OSU student leadership), and using them to enhance organic word-of-mouth marketing and fan experience

6. Partner with creative and content teams to develop assets for marketing campaigns and in-game use and ensure alignment across marketing, sales, sponsorships, and media teams.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Marketing, Sales, Public Relations or related field (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
  • 3 years experience in college athletics marketing & event presentation

  • Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:

    Proven ability to drive growth in crowd noise, attendance, and sales by relentlessly developing and executing innovative and creative ways to enhance the fan experience and market sport programs. Must be able develop and execute run-of-show. High energy & production output, creativity, proactivity, and openness to experimentation with humility to learn from unsuccessful initiatives are required for success in this role. Must be able to lead, organize, inspire, and drive a team of full time and part time employees, including students.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's
  • 3-5 years experience in NCAA Division I athletics marketing/promotions or University experience.
