Job Description
Reporting directly to the CTO, the Director of Engineering is the key leader responsible for engineering activities at Align. In this role, the Director of Engineering works with other engineering leaders to ensure predictable, high-quality engineering deliverables, with velocity, while ensuring that team members maintain a high sense of ownership and camaraderie.
Responsibilities
  • Directs the activities of the engineering organization in conjunction with the team leads.
  • Ensures processes and training are in place to deliver predictable, high-quality engineering deliverables.
  • Helps drive a culture of accountability, initiative, and ownership within the engineering organization.
  • Produces regular data and reporting to understand progress towards goals, team and individual performance, and the quality of engineering deliverables.
  • Works in concert with the Product and Support teams to ensure quality issues are properly identified and handled, and ensures feedback from these incidents flows back into engineering.
  • Establishes an understandable and scalable structure to help develop and scale the level of engineering team members.
  • Ensures that high-quality team members are attracted to the team, selected, and retained.
  • Works with Product to ensure upcoming work is understood, accurately estimated, and technically ready.
  • Always focuses on building up and enabling others, but occasionally rolls up sleeves and leads from the front, working alongside team members to hurdle important gates.
  • Periodically presents to leadership and the company on engineering organization and results, inspiring confidence and excitement about the engineering capabilities of the organization
  • Ensures the engineering team's time is valued and that engineering resources are used for maximum effect.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • 7+ years' experience in full-stack engineering
  • Past leadership experience in mentoring and growing software engineering teams.
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • A passion for developing people.
  • Experience with modern cloud-native SaaS engineering practices
  • Experience with (having rolled up your sleeves or having worked alongside) DevOps, distributed system testing, CI/CD systems, release management, and site reliability engineering.

This is a full-time remote position located in the US; however, it is preferred that the individual work in one of our company offices in St. George, UT; Indianapolis, IN; or Denver, CO. Preference may be given to those able to meet the on-site work location expectation. If local, the individual hired will work on-site according to a schedule set by management based on the requirements of their role.
Benefits & Compensation
  • The US base salary range for this full-time position is $200,000-$220,000. This role is bonus-eligible, with bonus opportunity based on individual and company performance. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location.
  • The AlignOps benefit program includes health, dental, and vision coverage. In addition, the company offers disability, life insurance, PTO, and a 401(k) plan.
