Job Summary
The Electrodiagnostic Coordinator oversees the daily operations of the Neurodiagnostic Laboratory and Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU), ensuring high-quality EEG, EMG, and neuromonitoring services. This role combines technical expertise with operational leadership, coordinating patient care, staff management, and compliance with hospital and accreditation standards. The coordinator serves as the central point of contact for patients, providers, and multidisciplinary teams, promoting safety, efficiency, and excellence in neurodiagnostic services.
Responsibilities
Clinical & Technical Oversight
• Prepare patients for EEG and related studies, explaining procedures and ensuring comfort.
• Apply electrodes accurately, calibrate equipment, and monitor recordings for artifacts and quality.
• Perform activating procedures (e.g., hyperventilation, photic stimulation, sleep) and monitor patient behavior during studies.
• Maintain continuous video EEG integrity and minimize data loss in EMU.
• Support technologists with troubleshooting and advanced neurodiagnostic techniques.
Operational Coordination
• Manage EMU scheduling, insurance authorizations, and admission flow to optimize throughput and reduce cancellations.
• Coordinate real-time communication among epileptologists, EEG technologists, nurses, and case management.
• Adjust workflows during high-risk cases or equipment issues to maintain safety and efficiency.
Safety & Compliance
• Enforce EMU-specific safety protocols (padded rails, seizure alert systems, fall prevention).
• Conduct daily safety rounds and maintain readiness for emergency workflows.
• Ensure compliance with Joint Commission and NAEC standards.
Quality Assurance & Metrics
• Oversee departmental Quality Assurance Program, including equipment checks and staff performance reviews.
• Track and report key metrics such as seizure capture rates, length of stay, cancellation rates, and safety events.
• Prepare dashboards and reports for leadership review.
Education & Staff Development
• Orient and train new staff; provide ongoing education on seizure protocols, rescue medications, and monitoring standards.
• Conduct performance evaluations and maintain personnel records.
• Promote team building, problem-solving, and professional development.
Patient & Family Communication
• Serve as the primary contact for pre-admission instructions and daily updates.
• Enhance patient satisfaction through clear communication and continuity of care.

The employee must possess/obtain (by the end of the orientation period) and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide developmentally appropriate assessment, treatment or care as defined by the department's identified patient ages. Specifically the employee must be able to demonstrate competency in: 1) ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of patient needs; 2) knowledge of growth and development; and 3) understanding of the range of treatment needed by the patients.
Competency Statement

Credentials and Education
• Registered EEG Technologist or Neurology RN with epilepsy/ICU experience
Strong knowledge of neurophysiology, seizure recognition, and antiseizure medications
Proven organizational, communication and leadership skills
Familiarity with NAEC standards and EMU safety protocols
