Job description

About the Position Town of Munster is seeking a Public Works Director of Operations. Reporting directly to the Town Manager, the Director oversees an annual operating budget of $12.75 million and a capital budget of $24.73 million while leading approximately 47 employees across six divisions, including streets, water, sewer, stormwater, traffic control, and sanitation oversight. This role is responsible for directing daily operations, managing long-range infrastructure planning, administering the Capital Improvement Program, and ensuring the efficient delivery of essential public services

The Director also oversees engineering design, project management, contractor and consultant performance, emergency response readiness, and compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations. The ideal candidate is a dynamic and collaborative leader with extensive knowledge of public works operations, municipal infrastructure systems, engineering principles, and project management practices. The successful candidate will possess strong leadership and organizational skills with the ability to develop high-performing teams, manage complex budgets and priorities, and implement effective operational strategies.

Exceptional communication and problem-solving abilities are essential, as the Director will regularly collaborate with elected officials, residents, developers, consultants, and local, state, and federal agencies.
