Is DevOps dead due to AI?

DevOps roles remain vital as AI tools enhance automation, monitoring, and deployment processes, but they do not replace the need for skilled DevOps engineers. Continuous integration, infrastructure management, and security require human oversight and expertise, ensuring DevOps remains a key part of software development. Familiarity with automation tools like Jenkins, Docker, and cloud platforms is important for junior DevOps professionals.

What engineer makes $500,000 a year?

Senior software engineers, especially those in high-demand fields like cloud computing, AI, or cybersecurity, can earn $500,000 or more annually, often through a combination of salary, bonuses, and stock options. Achieving this level typically requires extensive experience, advanced skills, and working at large tech companies or startups with significant funding.

What are some common challenges faced by Junior DevOps professionals when first joining a team?

Junior DevOps professionals often encounter challenges such as adapting to a fast-paced environment where automation and deployment processes are critical. Learning to work with various tools (e.g., CI/CD pipelines, cloud platforms, containerization) and understanding existing infrastructure can be overwhelming at first. Collaborating closely with development, QA, and IT operations teams requires strong communication and problem-solving skills. However, with mentorship and hands-on experience, most juniors quickly become proficient and play a key role in streamlining workflows.

What do junior DevOps do?

A junior DevOps engineer supports the development and operations teams by assisting with automation, deployment, and infrastructure management using tools like Jenkins, Docker, and Kubernetes. They help maintain continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines and often work under supervision to learn best practices in system administration and cloud services.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Junior DevOps, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Junior DevOps, you need foundational knowledge of software development, system administration, and scripting languages like Python or Bash, usually backed by a relevant degree or technical certification. Familiarity with version control systems (like Git), CI/CD tools (such as Jenkins or GitHub Actions), and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) is typically required. Strong problem-solving, collaboration, and willingness to learn make someone stand out in this role. These skills ensure seamless development-to-deployment workflows, system reliability, and effective teamwork in dynamic tech environments.

What are Junior DevOps engineers?

Junior DevOps engineers are entry-level professionals who support the development and operations teams by automating processes, managing infrastructure, and ensuring continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD) pipelines. They typically work under the guidance of senior DevOps engineers to learn best practices for coding, deployment, monitoring, and troubleshooting. Their responsibilities may include writing scripts, maintaining cloud environments, and collaborating with developers to streamline workflows. Junior DevOps roles are a great starting point for those interested in combining software development with IT operations.

How to get a DevOps job with no experience?

To secure a Junior DevOps position with no experience, focus on building foundational skills in Linux, scripting, and cloud platforms like AWS or Azure. Gaining hands-on experience through personal projects, online labs, or certifications such as the AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner can improve your chances and demonstrate your commitment to learning.

Golden CO 500 Golden Ridge
We are seeking a Senior DevSecOps Engineer to join our development team. In this role, you will take ownership of designing and driving complex cloud infrastructure, security integration, and deployment automation for our cloud-native platform. You will operate with greater autonomy than an Engineer, contribute to architectural decisions, mentor junior team members, and serve as a technical authority within the DevOps practice - all while delivering secure, scalable, and highly available solutions.
At Allegion, we are driven by a bold vision: redefining safety while empowering our employees to thrive. When you join our team, you become part of a culture that values innovation, purpose, and excellence. This role offers the benefits of our dynamic hybrid work model-combining in-person collaboration for meaningful moments with the flexibility of remote work. Since hybrid arrangements can vary based on the needs of the individual, team and business, your talent acquisition partner will provide specific hybrid details about this role.
We are committed to fostering a healthy work-life balance and building meaningful connections, ensuring you have the tools, resources, and support needed to excel in any environment. Together, we'll unlock your potential and create a lasting impact.
While this is the current structure and we currently have no plans to change, we reserve the right to make changes to the hybrid schedule as needed at the Company's discretion.
Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States. The company does not intend to provide sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H-1B, TN, etc.) for this employment position.
What you'll do:
  • Design and implement complex, scalable infrastructure solutions on Azure and AWS, contributing to architectural standards and long-term roadmaps.
  • Automation of infrastructure provisioning and configuration using Terraform, developing reusable modules and enforcing IaC best practices.
  • Monitor, manage, and optimize cloud resources across Azure and AWS environments.
  • Architect and maintain advanced CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps, GitHub/GitHub Enterprise) integrating with multiple systems and ensuring high availability of deployment processes.
  • Drive automation of testing, release, and quality-gate workflows; integrate security and code quality tooling (SonarQube, Black Duck, Wiz or equivalents) as first-class pipeline citizens.
  • Develop and enforce security policies, procedures, and controls across the software delivery lifecycle.
  • Lead compliance initiatives and support internal/external audits against standards such as SOC-2, NIST and CIS.
  • Design comprehensive monitoring, logging, and alerting systems; proactively analyze telemetry to resolve complex issues before they impact users.
  • Own incident response from detection to resolution; contribute to post-incident reviews and reliability improvements.
  • Implement and manage containerized workloads using Docker and Kubernetes; ensure efficient deployment and scaling of applications.
  • Write scripts and automation (PowerShell, Python, Bash, YAML) to standardize and accelerate operational tasks.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to Associate and Professional-level engineers; conduct code and architecture reviews.
  • Facilitate cross-team communication between development, security, IT, and operations stakeholders.
  • Contribute to strategic planning for DevOps practices, tooling selection, and infrastructure scaling.
  • Participate actively in Agile/Scrum processes and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Document runbooks, architecture decisions, and deployment procedures for technical and non-technical audiences.

What you need to succeed:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Cloud Infrastructure, or a related field (or equivalent years of relevant experience)
  • 5-7 years of hands-on DevOps/DevSecOps experience in cloud environments
  • Proven expertise with Microsoft Azure and AWS cloud services
  • Strong experience architecting and maintaining CI/CD pipelines
  • Deep hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), including designing modular, reusable configurations
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation: PowerShell, YAML, Unix shell, Python, and/or Ruby
  • Experience with Docker and containerized workloads
  • Solid understanding of DevSecOps principles, security controls, and compliance standards (NIST, CIS)
  • Experience with MS SQL database configuration and deployment automation
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor junior engineers and lead technical design discussions
  • Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills across distributed, cloud-native systems

Preferred skills:
  • Familiarity with GitOps principles and tooling
  • Working knowledge of Kubernetes internals, networking, and operations
  • Experience with Terragrunt or advanced Terraform workflow tooling
  • Exposure to observability tooling such as Grafana, Prometheus, Sentry, or Splunk
  • Prior experience contributing to DevOps strategy, tooling evaluation, or process improvement initiatives
