How do remote DevOps professionals typically collaborate with development and operations teams across different time zones?

Remote DevOps professionals often use a combination of collaboration tools such as Slack, Jira, and Zoom to stay connected with development and operations teams. They rely heavily on clear documentation, version control systems, and automated workflows to ensure smooth handoffs and consistent processes across time zones. Regular stand-up meetings, asynchronous communication, and shared dashboards help maintain alignment on priorities and progress, making it possible to address incidents and deploy updates efficiently despite geographical differences.

Are DevOps still in demand?

Yes, DevOps roles remain in high demand as organizations continue to adopt cloud computing, automation, and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) practices. Skills in tools like Docker, Kubernetes, and Jenkins are particularly sought after, and the role often requires knowledge of scripting and cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure.

Can a DevOps engineer work remotely?

Yes, many DevOps engineers work remotely, as the role primarily involves managing infrastructure, automation, and cloud services that can be accessed online. Remote work is common in this field, especially with skills in tools like Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud platforms, and often requires strong communication and collaboration abilities. However, some companies may have specific on-site requirements depending on their security policies or team structure.

What Are Remote DevOps Jobs?

Remote DevOps jobs focus on combining software development and information technology operations. In these careers, your duties include engineering software and systems to meet the specific needs of a business or enterprise. You may perform tasks such as software coding and the development of network resources to allow for easy updates and the addition of new technology. As a remote developer, you work from home or another remote location. DevOps job roles include DevOps architect, DevOps engineer, software and system tester, and an integration specialist, whose responsibilities involve working to integrate new software and applications seamlessly.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote DevOps Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote DevOps Engineer, you need strong skills in systems administration, cloud platforms (like AWS, Azure, or GCP), scripting, and CI/CD pipelines, typically backed by a degree in computer science or related certifications such as AWS Certified DevOps Engineer. Familiarity with tools like Docker, Kubernetes, Jenkins, and infrastructure-as-code systems (e.g., Terraform or Ansible) is standard in this role. Exceptional problem-solving, communication, and time-management skills are crucial for collaborating effectively across distributed teams. These abilities enable seamless deployment, scalability, and reliability of systems, ensuring smooth operations in a remote work environment.

What is a Remote DevOps engineer?

A Remote DevOps engineer is a professional who works from a remote location to manage and automate an organization's IT infrastructure, development, and deployment processes. Their main goal is to bridge the gap between software development and IT operations, ensuring that software can be released quickly, reliably, and efficiently. Remote DevOps engineers use tools like CI/CD pipelines, configuration management, and cloud platforms to streamline workflows and improve system reliability. They collaborate with development and operations teams using online communication and project management tools.

How to make $80,000 a year working from home?

A remote DevOps engineer can earn $80,000 or more annually by gaining relevant skills in cloud platforms, automation tools, and scripting, along with certifications like AWS or Azure. Building experience through projects and demonstrating proficiency in CI/CD, containerization, and infrastructure management can help achieve this salary level while working remotely.

Will AI replace DevOps?

AI is expected to augment DevOps roles by automating routine tasks such as deployment, monitoring, and incident response, allowing DevOps professionals to focus on more complex problem-solving and system design. While AI can improve efficiency and reduce errors, it is unlikely to fully replace the need for human expertise in managing and optimizing complex infrastructure and workflows.

We're Remodel Health, the health benefits platform that helps organizations care well for their teams. We're helping employers reimagine the way they provide employees with health benefits at work. Our platform shifts organizations from traditional, one-size-fits-all health insurance plans to an individualized health insurance experience for each employee and their family. Are you intrigued?

We care deeply for our customers and passionately believe there is a better way for employees to receive health benefits from their organization.

The engineering team is looking for a DevOps Engineer to join our lean and dedicated group. You will have the opportunity to be a key team member in a growth-focused environment - supported and challenged to grow your skillset while working within a tight-knit team that values learning and collaboration.

Our infrastructure lives in Azure, and we rely on modern DevOps practices to ship reliably and securely. You'll own our CI/CD pipelines, manage infrastructure as code, and help us meet our compliance obligations including SOC 2 Type 2 and HITRUST.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Own and continuously improve our CI/CD pipelines, ensuring fast, reliable, and secure software delivery.
  • Write, manage, and maintain Terraform scripts to provision and manage cloud infrastructure in Azure.
  • Partner with engineering and compliance teams to uphold our SOC 2 Type 2 and HITRUST compliance requirements - including documentation, evidence collection, and control implementation.
  • Monitor system health, respond to incidents, and improve platform reliability and observability.
  • Establish and enforce DevOps best practices across the team.
  • Mentor engineers on infrastructure and deployment workflows.
Requirements
  • 3-7 years of DevOps, platform engineering, or infrastructure engineering experience
  • Hands-on experience with Azure (compute, networking, storage, IAM) and exposure to AWS.
  • Proficiency building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or similar)
  • Strong experience writing and managing Terraform or other infrastructure-as-code tooling
  • Familiarity with SOC 2 Type 2 and/or HITRUST compliance frameworks
  • Strong communication skills and work ethic
  • Comfort working across security, engineering, and operations functions
  • Familiarity with .NET Core and React/Typescript a plus
How you'll be cared for at work:
  • Health benefits like medical, dental, and vision
  • Competitive pay, 401(k), and profit-sharing incentives
  • Work-provided computer and an adjustable standup desk
  • Generous PTO and flexible working hours
  • Parental leave
  • Office-provided coffee, snacks, and team lunches
  • Dedicated work hours for training programs
Benefits:
  • Full health benefits offering, including life, long-term disability, dental, and vision
  • Generous PTO
  • 401(k) match
  • Sabbatical PTO available after 5 years

This is a full-time, permanent position based in downtown Indianapolis. The role is hybrid - four days in office, one day remote.

We will not sponsor H1b Visas. No recruiters, please.
