Database Administrator 

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced Database Administrator to lead, manage, and implement database projects across their full lifecycle. Serving as a senior database expert, you will provide technical supervision to junior staff and oversee the design, development, and maintenance of database systems in a distributed enterprise environment.

Key Responsibilities & Activities

  • Project Management & Leadership: Manage and implement database projects from inception to deployment. Provide daily supervision and direction to junior technical staff.

  • Technical Presentations: Prepare and deliver professional presentations on database management systems (DBMS) concepts to relevant stakeholders.

  • System Installation & Upgrades: Install and upgrade the core database server software and associated application tools.

  • Storage & Capacity Planning: Allocate system storage and plan future storage capacity requirements for the database system.

  • Database Architecture & Design: Modify database structures as necessary based on technical information provided by application developers.

  • Security & Access Control: Enroll system users, maintain robust system security, and strictly control and monitor user access to the database.

  • Compliance & Support: Ensure organizational compliance with database vendor license agreements and contact database vendors directly for advanced technical support.

  • Performance Tuning: Proactively monitor and optimize the overall performance of the database environment.

  • Backup & Disaster Recovery: Plan, implement, and execute comprehensive strategies for backing up, restoring, and maintaining archived database information.

  • Reporting: Generate a variety of operational and technical reports by querying database systems as needed.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • General Experience: A proven track record of increasing responsibility in information systems design, technical solution delivery, and system management through the SDLC.
  • IBM DB2 Expertise: Comprehensive database management experience with IBM DB2, serving as a senior database expert to manage all technical aspects of development.
  • Microsoft SQL Server Experience: Direct experience in the design and management of MS SQL environments.
  • Automation & Scripting: Demonstrated expertise in the creation and maintenance of stored procedures, batch jobs, and Pearl (Perl) scripts.
  • Enterprise Scheduling & Applications:
    • Proven experience in managing, developing, and operating Global ECS (or a similar enterprise job scheduling tool) in a distributed enterprise environment.

    • Specialized experience supporting client-server applications, specifically the Automated Support Package.

Preferred Certifications (Optional)

Possession of one of the following credentials is highly preferred, though certification is not strictly required:

  • IBM Certified Advanced Database Administrator - DB2 for Linux, Unix, and Windows
