Location: Southern Aroostook
Schedule: Full-Time/Days
Pay Range: $65,000-$85,000

Job Description
Immediate opening for a Business Advisor to provide business advising, technical assistance, and relationship management services to entrepreneurs, small businesses, and expanding companies throughout Aroostook County. This position works directly with business owners to assess needs, identify challenges, develop practical solutions, and connect clients with financing, technical assistance, and community resources that support long-term business success.
The Business Advisor serves as a trusted resource for businesses at every stage of development—from startups to established companies seeking growth, operational improvements, or succession planning. This role is ideal for a professional who enjoys building relationships, solving business challenges, and helping strengthen the regional economy.

Essential Functions
  • Provide one-on-one business advising and technical assistance to entrepreneurs and existing businesses.
  • Assist startup businesses with business planning, market research, financial planning, and organizational development.
  • Support existing businesses with growth planning, operational improvements, staffing strategies, succession planning, and long-term sustainability.
  • Review business plans, financial statements, budgets, cash flow projections, and other financial documents.
  • Evaluate business operations and provide recommendations to improve efficiency, profitability, and long-term success.
  • Connect businesses with financing opportunities, lending partners, grant programs, and other technical assistance resources.
  • Provide post-loan technical assistance to help businesses remain financially successful.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with business owners, lenders, municipalities, economic development organizations, and community partners.
  • Represent the client at business events, networking opportunities, workshops, and community meetings.
  • Promote the client's business services throughout the assigned service area.
  • Maintain accurate client records and documentation while supporting program reporting and performance measures.
  • Prepare reports, track client outcomes, and ensure compliance with applicable program requirements.
  • Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and organizational initiatives.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Economics, Public Administration, Entrepreneurship, or a related field.
  • Equivalent education and directly related professional experience may be considered.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with business owners, lenders, and community partners.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Valid driver's license with the ability to travel throughout the assigned service area.
Preferred
  • Experience in business advising, commercial lending, small business ownership, business management, economic development, or financial analysis.
  • Knowledge of business financing, lending, grant programs, and capital resources.
  • Experience reviewing financial statements, cash flow, budgets, and business plans.
  • Familiarity with entrepreneurship and small business operations.

  • Strong understanding of small business operations and entrepreneurship.
  • Ability to analyze financial information and identify practical business solutions.
  • Ability to explain financial and business concepts in a clear, understandable manner.
  • Strong customer service and relationship-building skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple client relationships and priorities.
  • High level of professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Working Conditions
  • Primarily office-based with frequent travel throughout Aroostook County to meet with clients and community partners.
  • Occasional evening or early morning meetings and community events.
  • Typical office environment with visits to client businesses and partner locations.
  • Occasional lifting of materials up to 25 pounds.
Compensation amp; Benefits
  • Competitive annual salary $65,000-$85,000 depending on experience
