Description: 
Community Consolidated School District 89 is seeking to hire several full-time 1:1 Aides.  This position is five days a week, FTE 1.0 (full-time).  This aide will support the needs of the school District in one of our classrooms at Westfield Elementary School during the 2026-2027 school year. 
Position Summary: In this position one will assist an assigned student with instruction in general daily classroom activities as assigned by teaching staff.  This person is responsible for monitoring the academic and behavioral performances of their assigned student.  The Instructional Aide (or Paraprofessional) works under the direct supervision of an assigned teacher.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (Other duties may be assigned.)




  1. Make decisions and demonstrates leadership that supports the mission, vision, goals, and interests of the district and of students.  Communicates, collaborates, and cooperates with colleagues, supervisors, staff, and students.
  2. Assists teacher in maintaining student discipline and with classroom instruction.  May escort children to and from various instructional areas or rooms.
  3. Assists with set up of classroom and prepares materials for specialized instructional units.  Coordinates the use of audio-visual equipment and computers for the classroom.
  4. Handles reports and related clerical functions with the teacher including daily attendance and student assessment of academic or behavioral progress.  Keeps daily logs of student behavior and learning as directed by the classroom teacher.
  5. Prepares and/or assists with various curricula, such as physical education, as directed.  Evaluates student performance under the supervision of the classroom teacher
  6. Tutor students individually or in small groups to reinforce and follow up learning activity.
  7. Serves as a source of information and helps any substitute teacher.
  8. Participates in in-service training programs as assigned
  9. Advise the classroom teacher or principal immediately of the existence of any problems deemed to warrant prompt attention, advice, or intervention.
  10. Performs special assignments and other duties as determined by the classroom teacher or school administration.

 Qualifications Experience - Knowledge Requirements:  
All applicants for this position are required to meet Illinois requirements for aides, holding an ELS (PARA) license or SUB license.   • Completion of requirements for a high school diploma.  A college or university degree is preferred.
  • Paraprofessional Certification including completion of a minimum of 60 semester hours of college or university credit and a Letter of Approval from the Regional Office of Education.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for the work to be performed.
  • Experience with the supervision of children in group settings.  Previous work in childcare is preferred.
  • Experience with Apple computer systems and office production software.

 Skills Required:

  • Ability to read, interpret and write written and verbal information. Ability to write professional correspondence, routine reports.  Ability to speak effectively with the public and staff.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts using basic mathematics concepts of general mathematics and algebra related to school district information.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to operate a computer and related software in an Apple environment.
  • Ability to complete assigned tasks in a timely manner and communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing with time constraints.  
  • Keyboarding or word processing speed test must be passed at 30 words per minute without error.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community.
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies. 

Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.
  • The employee is regularly required to sit, talk hear, stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • The employee frequently is required to operate work equipment such as a computer and to reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and the ability to change focus.  
  • The job frequently requires long-term, continuous use of keyboarding. Frequent use of computer monitors is required.

 Work Environment:

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate at a standard acceptable level for this environment.
  • Work is usually conducted indoors.  This work could be conducted at any school district location.


Salary and Benefits:  All non-certified staff that fall under the Support Professional Association "SPA" are placed on a salary schedule according to position and experience as part of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.  The hourly range for this position is: $19.00-$22.75
Non-Certified staff experience 12 sick days and 2 personal days of paid time off. All full-time staff have the privilege of partaking in our health and dental insurance programs; these include 90% Board paid health insurance for the employee (80% Board paid for Family participants) and 100% Board paid dental insurance for the individual staff member.
