Job description

General Description JOIN OUR TEAM AS A CENTRAL MAIL & SURPLUS SUPERVISOR This is a highly responsible position supervising Central Mail and Surplus Operations. Coordinates, directs and oversees the work of the Central Mail and Surplus team. Delegates authority to personnel with assigned responsibility to ensure proper functioning of the team.

Directs, instructs and participates in the work of assigned warehouse employees. An employee in this class of work is responsible for supervising Central Mail and Surplus activity. Essential Job Functions Involves a variety of highly responsible decisions, exercising of considerable initiative, independent judgment and the application of extensive technical knowledge of the materials, supplies and parts maintained within the assigned warehouse or storage area.

Supervises, trains and assists subordinates engaged in mail and surplus activities such as receiving, coordination of sale and pickup of surplus items in addition to pickup and distribution of County-wide interoffice mail and inter-office library materials.Responsible professional work in operating a mailroom. Duties involve processing incoming and outgoing mail for all departments. Operates all functions of central mail room

Operates postage application machines. Weighs and processes packages for U.S.P.S. Utilizes hand trucks, forklifts or other handling equipment to move material to and from trucks

Ability to operate small to medium sized forklifts and small to large sized trucks. Ability to lift and/or move up to 60 pounds and also push or pull heavy objects. Performs related work as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of modern principles and practices of warehouse/surplus management methods and procedures. Ability to direct the development and the effective implementation of warehouse/surplus procedures. Ability to develop, implement and evaluate the effectiveness of administrative and warehouse/surplus procedures.

Knowledge of supervisory techniques. Ability to plan, direct, schedule, supervise, coordinate the activities of assigned staff and evaluate the work of subordinates. Establishes goals and creates performance measurements.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with officials, other departments, employees and the public. Ability to make and effectively present recommendations. Ability to plan an even flow of surplus materials through the warehouse.

Ability to operate computer terminal to keep detailed, computer generated inventory/stock control records and to prepare reports. Ability to conduct inventories. Extensive knowledge of the materials, supplies, parts and equipment stored and/or used within assigned warehouse or storage area.

Knowledge of office practices and procedures. Ability to adhere to prescribed routines, make arithmetic computations quickly and accurately, keep routine records and make routine reports. Extensive knowledge of clerical and financial record keeping as employed in warehousing operations.

Ability to understand and utilize postal regulations. Ability to operate small to medium sized forklifts, pallet jacks and small to large sized trucks. Ability to lift and/or move up to 60 pounds and also push or pull heavy objects.

Minimum Requirements PHYSICAL SKILLS: Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, written and visual communication. Ability to climb, bend, stoop, stand, walk and squat frequently. Ability to climb a flight of stairs.

Ability to lift up to a height of three feet. Ability to lift and/or move up to 60 pounds and also push or pull heavy objects. May use a handling device (dolly, cart, etc.) or work with another team member to lift and/or move excessively heavy objects

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. Two (2) years of experience in warehousing, which includes inventory and record keeping. Personal computer experience is required.

Experience in making minor repairs on small tools and equipment. Supervisory experience preferred. One (1) year experience in electronic mail processing preferred.
