Job description

Imagine shaping the future of patient-centered healthcare environments. At DGA, we're not just designing buildings-we're creating healing spaces that prioritize the well-being of patients and empower caregivers to deliver exceptional care. Our work integrates strategic healthcare planning, regulatory insight, and human-centered design to streamline clinical workflows, support family engagement, and enhance health outcomes. If you bring the vision and expertise to translate complex healthcare needs into meaningful, functional spaces, we invite you to be part of this transformation. Let's connect!
As a Senior Healthcare Planner at DGA, you will play a pivotal leadership role in shaping innovative, patient-centered environments that improve care delivery and operational efficiency. You'll serve as a trusted advisor to our clients-guiding strategic planning conversations, interpreting complex healthcare needs, and translating them into impactful design solutions.
In this role, you will:
  • Lead and provide expert medical planning guidance to both project teams and the firm-wide healthcare practice.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with healthcare clients, ensuring alignment between strategic goals, operational needs, and regulatory compliance.
  • Develop a deep understanding of each client's clinical program, organizational standards, and workflow priorities to shape the project's design vision.
  • Support proposal development and contract negotiations by defining planning scope, work effort, and milestone schedules.
  • Facilitate and lead key project meetings and presentations, acting as the primary planning liaison to client leadership and user groups.
  • Collaborate with design leads to develop integrated planning solutions that align clinical functionality with architectural expression.
  • Coordinate closely with project managers, architects, and consultants to establish project schedules and ensure planning continuity.
  • Champion inter-disciplinary coordination and uphold quality control across all planning efforts.
  • Oversee the development and documentation of planning concepts throughout the design process, from visioning through construction.

You'll bring to DGA:
  • A proven track record of 10+ years leading healthcare planning and design efforts across complex medical environments, including acute care, outpatient, and specialty facilities.
  • A degree in Architecture, Interior Design, or a related field; familiarity with OSHPD/HCAI compliance and California healthcare regulations is a strong plus.
  • Deep expertise in healthcare design strategy, master planning, and clinical programming, with a strong understanding of operational workflows and regulatory drivers.
  • Demonstrated ability to build trust and lead conversations with senior client stakeholders, user groups, and project partners-ensuring alignment from visioning through implementation.
  • A collaborative leadership style with experience managing teams and mentoring junior staff within an interdisciplinary design environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to synthesize complex inputs into clear, actionable planning strategies.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and visual communication skills, with the confidence and professionalism to represent DGA in client meetings and presentations.
  • Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, and MS Office; experience with SketchUp, Photoshop, InDesign, and dRofus is a plus, particularly in communicating planning concepts effectively
