Dillon’s Land Development Business Unit is looking for a Land Development Engineer to fill an existing vacancy within our multidisciplinary team of professionals. You will have the opportunity to work on new and exciting projects while providing clients with a fully integrated and superior customer experience.

What your day will look like

Project Manager Component

  • Carry out lead project management for land development projects.
  • Assist in the scheduling and coordination of various activities to be completed by supporting staff and provide quality assurance on those activities.
  • Manage projects, correspond with approval agencies and deal directly with clients related to setting and managing budgets and invoicing as well as scheduling deliverables.
  • Work with Contract Administration staff to ensure the best interests of the clients are achieved during the construction. implementation stage. Tasks will include (but are not limited to) coordination and attendance at the pre-construction meeting meetings and responding to questions from the field.
  • Manage or support post construction activities as required for objectives such as letter of credit reductions, construction certifications, municipal assumption activities, registration clearances, etc.
    Complete various financial management activities, including invoicing, collections/AR, backlog analysis, etc.


Project Engineer Component

  • Prepare and coordinate detailed design activities, including earthworks, site grading, sewer and watermain design, phasing plans, road and parking lot design, utility coordination, stormwater management, groundwater management, and erosion and sedimentation control plans.
  • Work closely with other project managers, Team Leads, and designers to perform various design and approval related tasks, including preparation and coordination of Preliminary Servicing Reports (PSI), Functional Servicing Reports, Design Briefs, and Stormwater Management Reports.
  • Work directly with the project consultant team and client representatives to facilitate design coordination as well as direct contact with approval agencies to expedite addressing comments.
  • Provide leadership and technical guidance to junior staff and assist in their skill development and growth.
  • Organize and lead municipal engineering designs (use of Civil 3D and other land development software is an asset but not required).

Learning & Development 

  • Commit to self-development and ongoing learning and professional development.
  • Input to the career development of junior staff, including technical direction, training recommendations, coaching and mentoring.
  • Contribute to Dillon’s corporate profile through active participation in professional associations and committees.

What you will need to succeed

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a relatable degree.
  • P.Eng is an asset but not a requirement.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D, Subdivision and Site Plan Design.
  • A working knowledge of Stormwater Management practices and techniques.

  • Minimum of 5 -10 years project management experience in the Civil/Land Development Sector.
  • Excellent communication and report writing skills and ability to prioritize and manage multiple project timelines.
  • A passion for learning new ways to use the design software to produce smarter & faster designs and a desire to be on the leading edge and stay there.
  • A desire to make the world a better place through your professional work and an appreciation that this must be done pragmatically in the context of project budgets and what agencies will approve.
