The Role

The Engineering Manager provides engineering leadership across process optimization, raw material management, troubleshooting, continuous improvement, and technical support for manufacturing operations. The role partners closely with Operations, Quality, and Business Teams to ensure manufacturing processes meet strict purity, safety, and regulatory requirements expected within the semiconductor materials supply chain.

The Engineering Manager is responsible for developing engineering talent, improving process performance, supporting capital investments, and ensuring technical rigor across all engineering activities at the site.

Job Description

Key responsibilities for this role include:

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of engineers by setting priorities, providing technical mentorship, conducting performance management activities, and supporting professional development.
  • Provide day-to-day technical leadership for the engineering function and ensure engineering resources effectively support manufacturing operations.
  • Oversee process engineering activities that support the safe, reliable, and efficient production of high-purity chemicals and solvents.
  • Drive process optimization initiatives focused on yield improvement, throughput enhancement, cost reduction, and process capability improvement while maintaining strict product purity standards.
  • Partner closely with Operations leadership to troubleshoot production issues and implement sustainable solutions that improve process stability and manufacturing reliability.
  • Lead or support structured root cause investigations for process deviations, equipment issues, or product quality concerns and ensure appropriate corrective and preventive actions are implemented.
  • Oversee raw material engineering activities including supplier technical interface, material qualification, raw material performance evaluation, and troubleshooting related to incoming materials.
  • Collaborate with Supply Chain and Quality teams to ensure raw material specifications and supplier performance support consistent product quality and supply reliability.
  • Identify and lead continuous improvement initiatives that enhance operational efficiency, process capability, and manufacturing robustness using data-driven decision making and structured problem-solving methodologies.
  • Provide engineering leadership for site capital projects including process improvements, equipment upgrades, and capacity expansion initiatives.
  • Collaborate with corporate engineering teams, project managers, and external vendors to ensure capital projects meet technical, safety, regulatory, and operational requirements.
  • Ensure engineering activities comply with all applicable environmental, health, and safety regulations as well as internal safety standards.
  • Support site process safety initiatives, participate in hazard reviews, and contribute to incident investigations and corrective action implementation.
  • Serve as the primary technical interface between engineering and other site functions including Operations, Quality, EHS, Supply Chain, and R&D.
  • Support new product introductions and process transfers by providing engineering expertise related to manufacturing feasibility, process scale-up, raw material requirements, and operational readiness.
  • Maintain strong technical documentation, engineering standards, and engineering knowledge management to ensure consistency and continuity across site processes.

REQUIREMENTS

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or related engineering discipline required.
  • Advanced degree preferred but not required.

Experience

  • 8-10 years of engineering experience in chemical manufacturing, specialty chemicals, semiconductor materials, or a similarly regulated manufacturing environment.
  • 3-5 years of leadership or supervisory experience managing engineering staff or technical teams.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting complex manufacturing processes, troubleshooting process issues, and implementing process improvements.
  • Experience working in high-purity manufacturing environments or within the semiconductor supply chain is strongly preferred.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of chemical process engineering and manufacturing operations.
  • Experience with root cause analysis and structured problem-solving methodologies.
  • Familiarity with continuous improvement tools such as Lean or Six Sigma.
  • Understanding of raw material qualification processes and supplier technical engagement.
  • Experience supporting capital projects, process equipment implementation, or manufacturing technology improvements.
  • Ability to analyze process data and translate findings into practical operational improvements.

Operational and Scheduling Expectations

  • Willingness to start work at 7:30 AM to support daily production meeting.
  • Ability to provide engineering support outside standard hours when needed, including occasional support to assist with production activities or batch processing.
  • Ability to support limited domestic and international travel as required.
