The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced and customer-focused Field Appraiser to join our Claims team in California. This role is responsible for handling both field and desk appraisals, delivering a best-in-class claims experience for policyholders and claimants throughout the vehicle damage and repair process.
The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise in auto estimating, damage analysis, and total loss evaluations, along with the ability to identify potential fraud indicators and distinguish loss-related damage from pre-existing or unrelated vehicle damage. This position requires the ability to conduct thorough vehicle inspections, accurately document findings, and make sound coverage and repair-related decisions while maintaining empathy, professionalism, and proactive communication with customers.
Salary Range: $78,800 - $98,500
How You Will Make an Impact
  • Conduct field and desk appraisals for auto physical damage claims providing an industry-leading claims experience
  • Write accurate vehicle repair estimates using CCC and supporting documentation
  • Inspect damaged vehicles in person when necessary to assess repairability and damages
  • Review and approve supplemental repair requests and additional parts usage
  • Prepare and review total loss evaluations for policyholders and claimants
  • Issue or authorize payments for vehicle repairs
  • Coordinate vehicle repairs and proactively manage rental timelines and extensions
  • Maintain prompt, professional, and empathetic communication with customers, repair facilities, vendors, and internal partners
  • Maintain accurate claim documentation and update claim files in a timely manner
  • Manage diaries and pending claim workloads effectively to ensure timely claim resolution
  • Respond to claim correspondence with a high level of quality and urgency
  • Provide feedback and recommendations to improve claims processes, guidelines, and customer experience
  • Stay current on industry trends, claims best practices, policy updates, and California regulatory requirements

What You Will Need to Succeed
  • 3+ years of experience handling auto insurance claims, including:
    • Writing repair estimates
    • Approving supplements
    • Coordinating rental extensions
    • Completing total loss valuations
  • Strong experience using CCC
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required California insurance licensing and any additional state licenses as needed
  • Strong technical understanding of vehicle repair processes and alternative parts usage
  • Ability to independently manage both field inspections and desk appraisal responsibilities
  • Ability to identify potential fraud indicators
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • High level of professionalism while maintaining empathy and compassion for customers
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Curious mindset with the ability to solve problems creatively and collaboratively
  • Familiarity with claims best practices and regulatory compliance standards
  • Reliable internet connection for remote work, video conferencing, and daily operations
  • Proficiency with Windows-based systems and Google Workspace

Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience handling California auto claims in the field
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, high-growth claims environment
  • I-CAR, ASE, or other industry certifications preferred

Physical & Travel Requirements
  • Ability to travel locally within assigned California territories for vehicle inspections as needed
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle and maintain a valid driver's license
  • Ability to work remotely and in the field as business needs require
