Job description

About Prime Data Centers
Prime Data Centers develops, acquires, and operates data centers for some of the world's largest enterprises. A private firm owned by a group controlling $6 billion in assets, with a 15-year tenure in technology and real estate development, Prime provides customers with ownership options and dynamic leasing models, defining a true corporate partnership.
About the role
The Design Manager reports to the Director, Design and is a key execution Individual Contributor (IC) within the Design & Engineering team in the Product Delivery (PD) organization at Prime Data Centers. This role exists to own day-to-day design execution, coordinate internal and external contributors, and ensure design deliverables are timely, accurate, and aligned with delivery priorities.
This is a hands-on, execution-focused role well-suited for a design professional who enjoys owning scope, driving coordination, and translating direction into action. The Design Manager operates close to the work and is critical to reducing friction, rework, and delivery risk.
What you'll do
At the IC level, this role:
  • Owns execution of assigned design scopes and projects
  • Manages day-to-day coordination with internal teams and third-party designers
  • Is accountable for schedule adherence, issue resolution, complete deliverable packages, and design completeness
  • Escalates risks and tradeoffs clearly and early

This role is accountable for execution quality and follow-through, not organizational strategy.
Deliver high-quality design outputs on time by owning execution details, coordinating stakeholders, and maintaining momentum across projects.
Key Responsibilities
Design Execution
  • Manage design development from concept, through IFC, construction support, and final closeout
  • Coordinate inputs across Engineering, Construction, Product Delivery, Sales, Operations, and vendors
  • Track milestones, deliverables, and design dependencies
  • Ensure design outputs meet technical, regulatory, constructability, and contractual requirements

Coordination & Issue Resolution
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned design packages
  • Proactively identify conflicts, gaps, and risks
  • Drive resolution through collaboration and escalation when needed

Standards & Continuous Improvement
  • Apply established design standards, templates, and workflows
  • Provide feedback to Director, Design and cross-functional teams on process gaps and improvement opportunities
  • Drive lessons learned and continuous improvement efforts for your assigned projects
  • Contribute to lessons learned and continuous improvement efforts cross-functionally

First 6-12 Months: What Success Looks Like
  • Design deliverables consistently meet schedule and quality expectations
  • Fewer late-stage surprises or rework
  • Strong working relationships with internal teams and external partners
  • Increased predictability and transparency in design execution

Who Should Apply
This role is a strong fit for candidates who:
  • Have hands-on design experience in data centers, infrastructure, industrial, oil & gas, or similar environments
  • Enjoy owning execution details and driving coordination
  • Are organized and attentive
  • Communicate clearly and follow through reliably
  • Are comfortable operating in fast-paced, delivery-driven environments
  • Take pride in producing complete, buildable designs

What This Role Is Not
  • Not a purely strategic or hands-off role
  • Not an early-career or entry-level position
  • Not a role focused only on drawing & specification production without coordination and delivery responsibility

Qualifications
  • Relevant design or engineering background; and/or relevant military training and experience; and/or exceptional career experience in similar role
  • Experience coordinating multi-disciplinary design efforts
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Practical, delivery-oriented mindset

Benefits
  • Competitive salary range and performance bonus program
  • 401k fully vested upon enrollment, up to a 4% employer match
  • 100% employee premiums paid by employer for medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and disability
  • Paid Time Off + Sick time

Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis.

All applicants are considered for employment without attention to race, color, age, religion, sex (including pregnancy, childbirth or related medical conditions), sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, genetic information, ancestry, national origin, citizenship, protected veteran or military status, disability status, or any other classification protected by federal, state, or local laws and ordinances.
